Gut-Brain Metabolic Remodeling Mediates the Neuroprotective Effects of Combined Shrimp and Corn Peptides in Scopolamine-Induced Cognitive Impairment.

(1) Background: Bioactive peptides from marine and plant sources show neuroprotective potential, yet how their combination ratios affect memory regulation via the gut-brain axis remains unclear. This study investigated the effects of different ratios of marine peptide QMDDQ (Glutamine-Methionine-Aspartate-Aspartate-Glutamine) and plant peptide AGLPM (Alanine-Glycine-Leucine-Proline-Methionine) on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice. (2) Methods: Cognitive function was assessed using the Morris water maze and novel object recognition tests. Nissl staining, microplate-based assays for

Frankincense-loaded lactoferrin-conjugated solid lipid nanoparticles for targeted brain delivery and neuroprotection in a scopolamine-induced Alzheimer's model.

Central nervous system (CNS) disorders remain a major field with substantial unmet therapeutic needs. This study aimed to address the critical challenge of brain drug delivery by employing solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) surface-functionalized with lactoferrin (Lf) ligands, from the transferrin family, to facilitate transport across the blood-brain barrier. Frankincense (F), a natural compound with well-documented neuroprotective properties and minimal adverse effects, was encapsulated within (SLNs) using a microemulsion approach. The optimal formulation resulted in nanoparticles (NPs) with a

Evaluation of the Ameliorative Potential of 3,5-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,3,5-thiadiazinane-2-thione against Scopolamine-Induced Alzheimer's Disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder, marked by cognitive impairment. Currently, the available treatment provides only symptomatic relief and there is a great need to design and formulate new drugs to stabilize AD. In the search for a new anti-Alzheimer's drug, 3,5-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,3,5-thiadiazinane-2-thione (THTT), a tetrahydro-2H-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione derivative, was investigated against a scopolamine-induced Alzheimer's model. The selected test compound was administered intraperitoneally in three doses (15 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, and 45 mg/kg). The test

Grewia asiatica Berry Juice Diminishes Anxiety, Depression, and Scopolamine-Induced Learning and Memory Impairment in Behavioral Experimental Animal Models.

Grewia asiatica L. fruit natively called phalsa is a popular berry of Pakistan and widely consumed in the form of fresh juices and carbonated drinks in the summer season. The berry is enriched with antioxidants such as phenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and vitamin C. Scientifically, it is the least explored berry in terms of neuromodulatory activities, and therefore, in the designed study, chronically fed rats with the different dilutions (5%-30%) of fruit juice were subjected to behavioral assessment for anxiety, depression, and cognition (spatial memory) followed by biochemical analysis of

Pre-treatment with Scopolamine Naturally Suppresses Japanese Encephalitis Viral Load in Embryonated Chick Through Regulation of Multiple Signaling Pathways.

Suitable recognition of invasive microorganisms is a crucial factor for evoking a strong immune response that can combat the pathogen. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a pivotal role in the induction of this innate immune response through stimulation of interferons (IFNs) that control viral replication in the host via distinct signaling pathways. Though the antiviral property of Atropa belladonna has been established, yet the role of one of its active components scopolamine in modulating various factors of the innate immune branch has not yet been investigated until date. Thus, the present stud

Acetyl-L-carnitine rescues scopolamine-induced memory deficits by restoring insulin-like growth factor II via decreasing p53 oxidation.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the cholinergic neurons loss and impairments of learning and memory. Scopolamine is common used to imitate AD pathological features and also causes an obvious oxidative stress. In this study, we found that intraperitoneal administration of supplementary acetyl-L-carnitine partially reverses the learning and memory defects induced by scopolamine. We also found that acetyl-L-carnitine reverses the impairment of long-term potentiation, dendritic abnormalities, and the impaired recruitment of synaptic protein. The beneficial effects of acetyl-L-carnitin

Bromelain improved cognitive & mood behaviors, oxido-inflammatory indices and cholinergic transmission in scopolamine-induced neurotoxicity in male wistar rats.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with pathophysiological and psychological disturbances including cognitive decline, depression, anxiety and motor imbalance. Conventional drugs for managing AD do not address associated non-neurocognitive co-morbidities, hence the need to investigate alternative therapies especially from plants. The neuroprotective benefits of bromelain have been identified, but its impacts on scopolamine-induced neurotoxicity is yet to be elucidated. Twenty-Five male rats were separated randomly into 5 groups: Control (normal saline; 1ml/kg); Scopolamine (i.p; 1mg/kg); B

Additive interaction between scopolamine and nitric oxide agents on immobility in the forced swim test but not exploratory activity in the hole-board.

RATIONALE: The muscarinic cholinergic antagonist scopolamine has received an attention due to its unique antidepressant effects. However, the considerable adverse effects on nervous system limit the use of scopolamine as a psychiatric drug. OBJECTIVE: In order to overcome the limitations and increase the therapeutic effects of scopolamine, we decided to examine the effects of joint administration of sub-effective dose of scopolamine and the sub-effective dose of a nitric oxide (NO) precursor L-Arginine or a non-selective nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor L-NAME on depression- and anxiety-

Simultaneous determination of atropine, anisodamine, and scopolamine in plant extract by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis coupled with electrochemiluminescence and electrochemistry dual detection.

A rapid and simple method was demonstrated for the analysis of atropine, anisodamine, and scopolamine by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) coupled with electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and electrochemistry (EC) dual detection. The mixture of acetonitrile (ACN) and 2-propanol containing 1M acetic acid (HAc), 20mM sodium acetate (NaAc), and 2.5mM tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) was used as the electrophoretic buffer. Although a short capillary of 18cm was used, the decoupler was not needed and the separation efficiency was good. The linear ranges of atropine, anisodamine, and scopo

Effects of transdermal scopolamine, alone or in combination with cimetidine, on total 24 hour gastric acid secretion in patients with duodenal ulcer.

Transdermal scopolamine is an antimuscarinic preparation approved for use in the United States for prevention of motion sickness. A recent study using this drug (0.5 mg/patch) suggested that enough scopolamine was absorbed through the skin to reduce basal gastric acid secretion in patients with duodenal ulcer. We have compared the effect of transdermal scopolamine and oral cimetidine (400 mg twice daily) in seven men with chronic duodenal ulcer, both alone and in combination, on acid secretion throughout an entire 24 hour period in a placebo-controlled, randomised, double blinded cross over st

Oleic and omega-3 fatty acids buffer neuroinflammation in a scopolamine model with Alzheimer's-like features via target-level interactions.

Diet quality, beyond total fat, may shape the immune tone of the brain in Alzheimer's-relevant contexts. We examined whether the fatty acid profile and food matrix of high-fat diets (HFD) modulate hippocampal neuroinflammation in vivo and explored target-level mechanisms with molecular docking. Male B6129SF2/J mice received a standard diet (SD) or HFD enriched with extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), refined olive oil (ROO), refined palm oil (RPO), or ω3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω3-LCPUFA). During the final week, scopolamine induced acute cholinergic dysfunction. Neuroinflammation wa
