Derivation and validation of a prediction model to establish nursing-sensitive quality benchmarks in medical inpatients: a secondary data analysis of a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Hospitals are using nursing-sensitive outcomes (NSOs) based on administrative data to measure and benchmark quality of nursing care in acute care wards. In order to facilitate comparisons between different hospitals and wards with heterogeneous patient populations, proper adjustment procedures are required. In this article, we first identify predictors for common NSOs in acute medical care of adult patients based on administrative data. We then develop and cross-validate an NSO-oriented prediction model. METHODS: We used administrative data from seven hospitals in Switzerland to d

The Differential Effects of an Opt-Out HIV Testing Policy for Pregnant Women in Ethiopia When Accounting for Stigma: Secondary Analysis of DHS Data.

Individual factors associated with HIV testing have been studied across multiple populations; however, testing is not just an individual-level phenomenon. This secondary analysis of 2005 and 2011 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey data was conducted to determine the extent to which the 2007 institution of an opt-out policy of HIV testing during antenatal care increased testing among women, and whether effects differed by women's stigmatizing beliefs about HIV. A logit model with interaction between pre-/post-policy year and policy exposure (birth in the past year) was used to estimate the

Unclear boundaries: Family caregivers' invisible role in home-based palliative care in Norway: an exploratory analysis of secondary data from two previous studies.

BACKGROUND: The future need for home-based palliative care is expected to increase significantly. Family caregivers play a crucial role in home settings by ensuring continuity of care, participating in decision-making, and providing both emotional and practical support to their family members. Despite guidelines highlighting the importance of their involvement in providing palliative care at home, inadequate support from healthcare professionals often leaves family caregivers feeling overwhelmed and undervalued. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the pivotal role of family caregivers in h

Impact of Graft Source on Outcomes of Pediatric B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Secondary CIBMTR Analysis With Pretransplant Measurable Residual Disease Data.

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is a well-established therapy for high-risk pediatric B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). The recent FORUM study in Europe demonstrated decreased rates of relapse and superior overall survival with total body irradiation (TBI) combined with etoposide compared to a non-TBI-based regimen. However, a knowledge gap remains regarding the efficacy of the variety of conditioning regimens utilized globally, and the outcomes that may differ by varying disease status as evaluated by measurable residual disease (MRD) prior to HCT. Moreover, whi

Intensive blood pressure lowering after spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage for secondary stroke prevention (RECAP-ICH): a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Blood pressure-lowering treatment prevents stroke after spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage. However, there is uncertainty over the consistency of the effects across clinically relevant subgroups as well as the time course over which benefits accrue. We aimed to pool individual-level data across diverse settings and treatment strategies to quantify the size, heterogeneity, and timing of the effects of blood pressure-lowering treatment for the secondary prevention of major cardiovascular endpoints in patients with a history of intracerebral haemorrhage. METHODS: We did a systemat
