Silver nitrate is a widely used substance and has been applied topically for cauterizing bleeding and healing wounds. Encouraged by the success of an earlier experimental trial, a prospective, controlled, randomised double masked clinical study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of 1% silver sulphadiazine ophthalmic ointment in 20 eyes of mycotic keratitis. The pertinent clinical systemic and oral findings have been presented. Systemically, the patient presented with prenatal onset of growth retardation marked by an initial low birth weight, hemiatrophy, normal head size, frontal bossing, and triangular facies. Oral findings include an intact appearing primary dentition marked by microdontia, congenital absence of second premolars, blunted condyles, decreased anterior and posterior cranial base lengths, a mild hypoplastic mandible, and decreased facial height.

A typical case of advanced rhinophyma is reported. Partial excision reduced the size of the nose by two-thirds, leaving a thin layer of dermis. This was covered with silver-impregnated porcine xenograft, which allowed efficient drainage and remained adherent in its initial application for 2 weeks. A child is described who presented at 16 months with developmental delay and clinical features of the Russell-Silver syndrome. Chromosome analysis revealed trisomy-18 mosaicism. Only one other similar case has been reported in the literature. It is recommended that chromosomal studies continue to be included in the clinical investigation of children with Russell-Silver syndrome.
