Next-generation smart polymeric hydrogels for chronic wound management: integrating antimicrobial, immunomodulatory and regenerative strategies.

Wound healing is a tightly orchestrated sequence of hemostatic, inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling events, yet chronic wounds arise when this cascade is dysregulated by persistent infection, excessive oxidative stress, and biofilm formation. Such pathological conditions particularly in diabetic and vascular-compromised patients sustain inflammatory signaling, impair angiogenesis, and disrupt extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover. In this study, we comprehensively evaluated these pathological barriers while presenting an integrated overview of recent advances in multifunctional smart hyd

Smart nanoplatform based on mesoporous polydopamine for combined photothermal-chemotherapy in the treatment of urothelial carcinoma.

Urothelial carcinoma is a common urinary malignancy with high recurrence, easy progression to muscle-invasive disease, and resistance to conventional therapies. To address the clinical challenges of poor drug retention, low bioavailability, severe toxicity, and the inability of monotherapy to inhibit tumor recurrence and metastasis, a smart responsive nanoplatform (PMP@ED/Ba) based on mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) was designed and constructed. This platform uses a thermosensitive phase-change material as a gatekeeper to co-load erdafitinib (FGFR inhibitor) and baicalein (antioxidant). Systema

Sustainable 3D printing by reversible salting-out effects with aqueous salt solutions.

Achieving a simple yet sustainable printing technique with minimal instruments and energy remains challenging. Here, a facile and sustainable 3D printing technique is developed by utilizing a reversible salting-out effect. The salting-out effect induced by aqueous salt solutions lowers the phase transition temperature of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) solutions to below 10 °C. It enables the spontaneous and instant formation of physical crosslinks within PNIPAM chains at room temperature, thus allowing the PNIPAM solution to solidify upon contact with a salt solution. The PNIPAM solution

A coupled magneto-mechanical-thermal constitutive model for transversely isotropic magnetorheological elastomers verified by experimental validation.

Magnetorheological elastomers, as a class of smart functional materials, have attracted considerable attention in various engineering and biomedical applications. Transversely isotropic MREs containing chain-like magnetic particle structures particularly exhibit enhanced mechanical and actuation properties compared with their isotropic counterparts. Employing nonlinear continuum mechanics framework together with finite strain theory, this study develops a physics-based constitutive model to predict the coupled magneto-mechanical-thermal behavior of such materials. In this formulation, the defo

Thermo-responsive jamming by particle shape change.

Granular materials transition between unjammed (deformable) and jammed (rigid) states when adjusting their packing density. Here, we report on experiments demonstrating that the same kind of phase transition can be alternatively achieved through temperature-controlled particle shape change. Using a confined system of randomly-packed rod-like particles made of shape memory alloy (SMA), we exploit that shape recovery of these bent rods with rising temperature at a constant packing density leads to a jammed state. The responsible physical processes are elucidated with numerical simulations based

Closed-loop carbon management strategies for climate and energy-resilient India.

Climate change, primarily driven by excessive CO2 emissions, poses urgent global challenges. India contributes over 2,600 Mt CO2 annually, with ∼80% originating from hard-to-abate sectors, such as power, cement, petrochemical, chemical, and steel. This review highlights the importance of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies as critical pathways to align India's growth with climate goals. India prioritizes point-source capture from flue gases, reflecting its concentrated emission profile. Effective carbon management models must generate h
