The influences of social support expressed from doctors and disclosed from peers on patient decision-making: an analysis from the online health community.

Patients are turning to OHCs to deal with the stresses and complications of infertility. As a stigmatized disease, infertile patients may value informational support and emotional support differently, which is ignored in existing studies. Based on social support theory, this study aims to reveal the role of informational support and emotional support of doctors in infertile patient decision-making. We select Haodf.com as our data source and we collected information for all new patients of 2,989 doctors. we use Jieba word segmentation tool and TF-IDF algorithm to segment word and find keywords.

Imagery special issue: underestimation of auditory performance in social phobia and the use of audio feedback.

Individuals with social phobia often have specific concerns about how they sound, as well as how they look, in social situations. Additionally, clients with social phobia experience negative self-imagery during anxiety provoking social situations. Their negative self-imagery encompasses a range of modalities including auditory aspects of performance [Hackmann, A., Clark, D. M., & McManus, F. (2000). Recurrent images and early memories in social phobia. Behaviour Research and Therapy, 38, 601-610.]. Other research has shown that clients with social phobia underestimate their social performance,

Pregnancy and Early Parenting Experiences of Persons With Disabilities.

BACKGROUND: Persons with disabilities (PWD) are as likely as their nondisabled peers to become pregnant, yet their experiences of pregnancy and early parenthood remain poorly understood. We aimed to explore the experiences of PWD during pregnancy and the postpartum period, with particular attention to managing their health and their children's health, and to parenting with a disability. METHODS: This qualitative descriptive study was part of a mixed-methods study focused on psychosocial risks and maternal-infant outcomes among PWD. We completed semi-structured interviews with 45 PWD who were

Educational community intervention with nonformal caregivers in a rural population to improve knowledge and resources related to palliative care: Study protocol.

BACKGROUND: In Spain, there are between 300,000 and 370,000 people with palliative care needs, and it is believed that fewer than 50% can access them. The current challenge is to combat inequities in access to palliative care resources in the rural environment through training, greater provision of material and human resources, and the involvement of health system managers. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of an educational community intervention on knowledge of care for nonformal caregivers in a rural area. DESIGN: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study with a control gro

"When I think about my future, I just see darkness": How youth exiting homelessness navigate the hazy, liminal space between socioeconomic exclusion and inclusion.

OBJECTIVES: The overarching objective of this mixed methods longitudinal study was to understand whether and how rent subsidies and mentorship influenced socioeconomic inclusion outcomes for youth exiting homelessness. The focus of this paper is on the qualitative objectives, which evolved from a primary focus on exploring how study mentorship was working as a facilitator of socioeconomic inclusion to focusing on how participants navigated the hazy, liminal space between socioeconomic exclusion and inclusion. METHODS: This was a convergent mixed methods study scaffolded by community-based par

The experiences of, and need for, palliative care for people with motor neurone disease and their informal caregivers: A qualitative systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Despite being a terminal neurodegenerative disease, the role of palliative care is less recognised for motor neurone disease than for other life-limiting conditions. Understanding the experiences of, and need for, palliative care for patients and carers is key to configuring optimal policy and healthcare services. AIM: To explore the experiences of, and need for, palliative care of people with motor neurone disease and their informal carers across the disease trajectory. DESIGN: A systematic review of qualitative research conducted using Thematic Synthesis - PROSPERO registration

Patient and carer survey of remote vital sign telemonitoring for self-management of long-term conditions.

BACKGROUND: Home-based self-monitoring has failed to show intended savings to healthcare budgets yet it continues to emerge and gain popularity. OBJECTIVE: We set out to verify stakeholders' perspectives of remote vital sign telemonitoring. DESIGN: An observational design was adopted by devising a survey for distribution to service users and their informal carers. SAMPLE: Service users in South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust were included. A total of 274 questionnaires were issued. Data from 97 patients (35% response rate) and 49 carers were analysed. Of these, 81 patients and 48 of t

Time-Dependent Effects of Buspirone versus Desipramine on the 5-Choice Serial Reaction Time Task in Rats Reared in Social Isolation: Implication of Early Life Experience and Motoric Impulsivity.

BACKGROUND: Early life social experience and the function of the central serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptophan, 5-HT) system are involved in development of behavioral impulsivity in which individuals act without forethought or before all necessary information is available. However, most of the evidence has been obtained from acute 5-HT manipulation, whereas, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of subchronic regimen targeting of 5-HT1A receptors on motoric waiting impulsivity in socially isolated rats. METHODS: A two-week protocol of buspirone (0.5 mg/kg/day) and desipramine (2.5 mg/kg

Amygdala activation in the processing of neutral faces in social anxiety disorder: is neutral really neutral?

Previous research has suggested that Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is associated with a tendency to interpret ambiguous social stimuli in a threatening manner. The present study used event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine patterns of neural activation in response to the processing of neutral facial expressions in individuals diagnosed with SAD and healthy controls (CTLs). The SAD participants exhibited a different pattern of amygdala activation in response to neutral faces than did the CTL participants, suggesting a neural basis for the biased processing of ambiguous so

The impact of the baby's congenital malformation on the mother's psychological well-being: an empirical contribution on the clubfoot.

BACKGROUND: Empirical findings show that the child's illness can interfere with parental well-being and with the construction of a well-functioning effective relationship between the child and his/her caregivers. In line with these findings, the present study aims at investigating the negative impact of the baby's diagnosis of clubfoot on the mother and the protective function of social support; moreover, the study aims at implementing, as a pilot experience, an intervention protocol directed to the same sample of mothers, providing emotional and informational support. METHODS: A sample of 34

Social cognition moderates the influence of child physical abuse on inpatient psychiatric rehabilitation.

Moderating effects of social cognition in the relationship between the severity of history of child physical abuse (CPA) and social functioning were examined using 12-month longitudinal data among 143 participants with severe mental illness (SMI) in an inpatient psychiatric rehabilitation program. The adverse effects of the severity of history of CPA on social functioning were compensated for by greater social inference and lower external locus of control. Specifically, despite the severity of history of CPA, individuals with intact or greater social inference showed greater social functioning

Social anxiety and trustworthiness judgments of dynamic facial expressions of emotion.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Perception of trustworthiness in other people is essential for successful social interaction. Facial expressions-as conveyers of feelings and intentions-are an important source of this information. We investigated how social anxiety is related to biases in the judgment of faces towards un/trustworthiness depending on type of emotional expression and expressive intensity. METHODS: Undergraduates with clinical levels of social anxiety and low-anxiety controls were presented with 1-s video-clips displaying facial happiness, anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, or n

I've got a friend somewhere: control of social behavior across striatal subregions.

Most animals and humans are inherently social, enabling group dynamics to promote survival. Despite their importance, how the brain calibrates appropriate social behaviors to maximize survival and benefits remains incompletely understood. Distributed networks of neural circuits mediate complex behavioral states, including social behaviors. The striatum has long-known to be a structure essential for motivation and goal-directed behavior. The striatum is massive: it extends far along the anterior-posterior axis and can be divided into ventral, dorsal, and posterior domains. While it is well-appr

Tell Me a Story: Socio-Emotional Functioning, Well-Being and Problematic Smartphone Use in Adolescents With Specific Learning Disabilities.

Although Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) are described as specific difficulties in one or more academic areas, often socio-emotional problems are also reported to be related to well-being and school engagement. Moreover, recent evidence shows that emotional problems and reduced social support predict problematic use of new technologies, such as a smartphone, that can, in turn, increase these problems. In this study, we aimed to investigate socio-emotional functioning and its relation to well-being, school engagement, and problematic smartphone use. Social and emotional skills of 19 adoles

Negative Parenting Moderates the Prospective Association of ADHD Symptoms and Youth Social Problems.

Although ADHD and negative parenting are established predictors of youth outcomes, their independent and interactive effects on youth social functioning remain unclear. We tested childhood ADHD symptoms and negative parenting as independent and interactive predictors of prospective change in social problems across a four-year follow-up. At baseline, families of 221 (33% female) children with (n = 94) and without ADHD were rigorously assessed including observed positive and negative parenting behavior, youth ADHD symptoms, as well as multi-informant ratings of youth social problems at multiple

Ask autistic adolescents too: informant discrepancies and test-retest reliability in social behavior.

Assumptions about autistic youths' inability to accurately self-report their own behavior have limited what is known about adolescent-parent informant discrepancies. Across two randomized controlled trials, autistic adolescents (10-18 years) and their parents independently reported on adolescents' social skills and problem behaviors approximately 2-3 months apart. Test-retest reliability was evaluated among control-condition dyads (N = 40). Adolescent reports demonstrated moderate test-retest reliability across both domains. There were no group differences in reporting of social skills. Regard

Impaired recognition of communicative interactions from biological motion in schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with schizophrenia are deficient in multiple aspects of social cognition, including biological motion perception. In the present study we investigated the ability to read social information from point-light stimuli in schizophrenia. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Participants with paranoid schizophrenia and healthy controls were presented with a biological motion task depicting point-light actions of two agents either engaged in a communicative interaction, or acting independently of each other. For each stimulus, participants were asked to decide whether the two agents
