Deep RL-Based Continuous-Time Continuous-Space Homeostatically Regulated Reinforcement Learning (CTCS-HRRL).

Homeostasis is a biological process by which living organisms actively regulate internal states to maintain equilibrium. Prior research suggests that organisms can learn behaviors that support such regulation. The recently proposed homeostatically regulated reinforcement learning (HRRL) framework explains learned homeostatic regulation by integrating drive reduction theory with reinforcement learning (RL). While HRRL has been validated in discrete time and space, it has not yet been extended to continuous domains. In this work, we extend the HRRL framework to continuous time and space and intr

Tolerance Analysis of Test Mass Alignment Errors for Space-Based Gravitational Wave Detection.

Space-based gravitational wave detection imposes extremely high requirements on displacement measurement accuracy, with its core measurement components being laser interferometers and inertial sensors. The laser interferometers detect gravitational wave signals by measuring the distance between two test masses (TMs) housed within the inertial sensors. Spatial alignment errors of the TMs relative to the laser interferometers can severely degrade the interferometric performance, primarily by significantly amplifying tilt-to-length (TTL) coupling noise and reducing interferometric efficiency. Ballistic impact response of a fluid/structure coupling-based modification of human thorax modelling.

Studying the mechanical response of the human thorax submitted to ballistic impact is a challenging field of research. For ethical reasons, it is not possible to perform tests on the human body. Numerical simulations are therefore one of the alternatives for evaluating the mechanical response of the human thorax. In earlier research, a simplified human thorax submitted to low-velocity impacts without ballistic protection was modelled. Not all internal organs in the thorax were taken into account. The only considered organs were the heart, lungs, trachea and aorta, with the space between them b

Anatomist and the pioneer of radiology Étienne Destot--95th anniversary of his death.

Destot was a leading pioneer in radiology, a pupil of Ollier, an anatomist, and researcher who followed in the experimental medicine tradition of Claude Bérnard. This work is an extensive, in depth, look at the life and work of Étienne Destot. On February 5, 1896, he began performing X-ray examinations, less than two months after Roentgen's discovery! His pioneering work described a space bordered by the hamate, capitate, triquetrum, and lunate; this space is now known as Destot's space. Tanton stated that Destot was the first to reveal the mechanism of fractures of the posterior margin of the

Modifiable factors related to life-space mobility in community-dwelling older adults: results from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.

BACKGROUND: The most common methods for measuring mobility in older adulthood include performance-based tests, such as the Timed-Up-and-Go and gait speed. While these measures have strong predictive validity for adverse outcomes, they are limited to assessing what older adults do in standardized settings, rather than what they do in their daily life. Life-space mobility, which is the ability to move within environments that expand from one's home to the greater community, has been proposed as a more comprehensive measure of mobility. The aim of this study was to determine the association betwe

Gravity's effect on biology.

Gravity is a fundamental interaction that permeates throughout our Universe. On Earth, gravity gives weight to physical objects, and has been a constant presence throughout terrestrial biological evolution. Thus, gravity has shaped all biological functions, some examples include the growth of plants (e.g., gravitropism), the structure and morphology of biological parts in multicellular organisms, to its effects on our physiological function when humans travel into space. Moreover, from an evolutionary perspective, gravity has been a constant force on biology, and life, to our understanding, sh

Dimensions of agoraphobia assessed by the Mobility Inventory.

Factor analyses of the When Accompanied and When Alone subscales of the Mobility Inventory (Chambless, Caputo, Jasin, Gracely & Williams, Behaviour Research and Therapy, 23, 35-44, 1985) were conducted using the responses of 177 panic disorder with agoraphobia patients. For both subscales a three-factor model was the most appropriate and accounted for approx. 60% of the variance in each case. The three factors were reliable and theoretically meaningful: fear of public places, enclosed spaces and open spaces. The fear of public places factor accounted for most of the explained variance and is d

Short birth spacing and its association with maternal educational status, contraceptive use, and duration of breastfeeding in Ethiopia. A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Closely spaced birth increases the risk of adverse maternal and child health outcomes. In Ethiopia, the prevalence of short birth spacing was highly variable across studies. Besides, contraceptive use, educational status, and duration of breastfeeding were frequently mentioned factors affecting short birth spacing. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of short birth spacing and its association with contraceptive use, educational status, and duration of breastfeeding among reproductive-age women in Ethiopia. METHODS: International databases: Google

Effects of Premolar Extraction on the Dimensions of the Airway Through Cephalometric Appraisal: A Retrospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, there has been a great deal of interest in research because of the changes that the extraction of premolars has caused to the structures surrounding of the upper airway. This is because it's thought that these therapies could have unforeseen detrimental effects on a patient's ability to breathe or put them at risk for diseases like obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Nevertheless, no research has looked into how the upper airway's dimensions are affected when a second premolar is extracted as part of orthodontic treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective s

Exploring the Chemical Space Around Protoflavonoids: Synthesis and Antitumor Activity of Protochalcones.

Natural and synthetic protoflavonoids exhibit a wide range of anticancer activities, including strong antiproliferative, proapoptotic, and DNA damage response-inhibitory activities; however, the surrounding chemical space has remained largely unexplored. In this study, we report the synthesis and biological evaluation of a focused compound library containing the p-hydroxydienone pharmacophore of protoflavonoids. Eleven derivatives were synthesized and characterized from chalcone precursors, and their antiproliferative activity was evaluated in four human adherent gynecological cancer cell line

Shape-similarity gain: A selection profile for simple objects.

Recent research has examined the selection profile-the pattern of enhancement and suppression of stimuli when allocating attention to a specific feature value. Support for several different selection profiles for simple feature dimensions (e.g., color, orientation) have been identified such as the feature-similarity gain and surround suppression effects. However, it is unclear whether the selection profile for more complex stimuli follows a similar pattern. Using a recently developed circular shape space, the current study assessed the selection profile for these simple shapes as an initial st
