Clinician Stakeholder Experience With Telemedicine Consults to Assess Neonatal Encephalopathy in a Rural State.

BACKGROUND: Serial neonatal encephalopathy (NE) examinations are difficult to perform in rural community hospitals as on-site experts are not readily available. We implemented a synchronous, acute care model of teleconsultation-the Maine Neonatal Encephalopathy Teleconsultation program (Maine NET)-to provide remote, joint assessment of NE by pediatric neurology and neonatology at nine community hospitals and one tertiary care center. We performed a qualitative study to interview clinicians about their experience of this program. METHODS: From April 2018 to October 2022, we employed a semistru

Optimising treatment in opioid dependency in primary care: results from a national key stakeholder and expert focus group in Ireland.

BACKGROUND: Treatment for opioid dependence in Ireland is provided predominantly by general practitioners (GP) who have undergone additional training in opioid agonist treatment (OAT) and substance misuse. The National Methadone Treatment Programme (MTP) was introduced in 1998, and was designed to treat the opioid dependent population and to regulate the prescribing regimes at the time. The past two decades have seen the increased prescribing of methadone in primary care and changes in type of opioid abused, in particular, the increased use of over the counter (OTC) and prescription medication

Standardised Outcomes in Nephrology-Polycystic Kidney Disease (SONG-PKD): study protocol for establishing a core outcome set in polycystic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common potentially life threatening inherited kidney disease and is responsible for 5-10% of cases of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Cystic kidneys may enlarge up to 20 times the weight of a normal kidney due to the growth of renal cysts, and patients with ADPKD have an increased risk of morbidity, premature mortality, and other life-time complications including renal and hepatic cyst and urinary tract infection, intracranial aneurysm, diverticulosis, and kidney pain which impair quality of life. Despite some therap

Community engagement and involvement in developing a community-based signposting tool for mental distress.

BACKGROUND: Common mental health conditions are increasing in England, with growing severity and unmet need. Evidence shows that mental wellbeing is strongly shaped by wider social determinants such as income, housing, employment, and relationships. Conventional clinical approaches may not adequately address these underlying factors, highlighting the need for preventative, community-based solutions. AIM: This paper describes the community involvement and engagement (CEI) approach used to develop CoSign, a digital signposting tool designed to help individuals identify social determinants contr

A critical reflection on community engagement in health equity research: translating principles into practice, navigating barriers, and compiling transferable lessons.

BACKGROUND: Community and stakeholder engagement is widely recognized as essential for equity-oriented health research, yet evidence on how engagement principles are enacted within stratified contexts remains limited. Existing studies often emphasize participatory processes without examining how institutional conditions shape engagement quality and outcomes. Empirical analyses linking engagement practice to equity-relevant research effects are needed. AIM: This study examined how principles of inclusivity, reciprocity, social justice, and reflexivity were operationalized within a community-en

Barriers and Strategies for Inclusive Clinical Trials: Focus Group Insights on Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility.

BACKGROUND: Clinical trials are essential for advancing healthcare, yet they often underrepresent key populations, which can limit the applicability of findings to populations for whom interventions are intended and perpetuate inequities in the evidence base. In Canada, practical, context-specific resources to support inclusive trial design and conduct remain limited. OBJECTIVE: To explore barriers, facilitators, and strategies related to equitable participation in Canadian clinical trials and to gather stakeholder input to inform development of an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibil

Stakeholder perspectives on adolescent sexual and reproductive health service utilization in Uganda's Busoga region: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents in low- and middle-income countries face high rates of unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unmet sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs. In Uganda, 24% of girls aged 15-19 years have begun childbearing, yet modern contraceptive prevalence among adolescents remains low (15%). These challenges are particularly severe in the Busoga region, where sociocultural norms, poverty, and limited health system capacity hinder access to adolescent-friendly SRH services. Despite national guidelines, utilization remains low. Few studies have triangulat

Stakeholder acceptance and attitudes toward dengue prevention: A study on fogging and autocidal traps techniques in Malaysia.

The ineffectiveness of current prevention efforts is underscored by the increasing number of dengue cases, emphasizing the necessity of innovative approaches. This investigation investigates the extent of stakeholder acceptability and attitudes toward the alternative autocidal trap method and the current fogging technique. The objective is to identify differences in community viewpoints regarding these control techniques among various stakeholder groups, including scientists and the public. Information was collected from two separate groups of individuals: scientists and the general people. A

Need for strategic communications and stakeholder engagement to advance acceptability of an overdose preventing vaccine targeting fentanyl.

BACKGROUND: Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, exposure to which has led to hundreds of thousands of overdose deaths. Novel vaccines are being developed that might protect against fentanyl overdose. Proactive attention to strategic communications and stakeholder engagement may smooth uptake of a novel vaccine given known challenges around vaccine hesitancy and concern for stigma related to substance use. METHODS: Qualitative interviews (N = 74) with a purposive sample of adolescents/young adults with opioid use disorder (OUD), family members of persons with OUD, experts in substance use treatmen

Core outcome set for studies evaluating interventions to prevent or treat delirium in long-term care older residents: international key stakeholder informed consensus study.

BACKGROUND: Trials of interventions to prevent or treat delirium in older adults resident in long-term care settings (LTC) report heterogenous outcomes, hampering the identification of effective management strategies for this important condition. Our objective was to develop international consensus among key stakeholders for a core outcome set (COS) for future trials of interventions to prevent and/or treat delirium in this population. METHODS: We used a rigorous COS development process including qualitative interviews with family members and staff with experience of delirium in LTC; a modifi

Leveraging international stakeholders' experiences with oral PrEP costs to accelerate implementation of the monthly dapivirine vaginal ring: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Costing and financing systematic implementation are recognized barriers to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention. In the absence of empiric implementation and economic data, perspectives from international stakeholders involved in developing and supporting daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) policy, and programs can provide critical insights for developing costed plans to support and accelerate the rollout of novel long-acting PrEP (LA-PrEP) methods, such as the monthly dapivirine vaginal ring (PrEP ring). METHODS: We interviewed stakeholders from purposively select

Co-developing a common glossary with stakeholders for engagement on new genetic approaches for malaria control in a local African setting.

Stakeholder engagement is an essential pillar for the development of innovative public health interventions, including genetic approaches for malaria vector control. Scientific terminologies are mainly lacking in local languages, yet when research activities involve international partnership, the question of technical jargon and its translation is crucial for effective and meaningful communication with stakeholders. Target Malaria, a not-for-profit research consortium developing innovative genetic approaches to malaria vector control, carried out a linguistic exercise in Mali, Burkina Faso and

A protocol for developing, disseminating, and implementing a core outcome set (COS) for childbirth pelvic floor trauma research.

BACKGROUND: More than 85% of women sustain different degrees of trauma during vaginal birth. Randomized controlled trials on childbirth pelvic floor trauma have reported a wide range of outcomes and used different outcome measures. This variation restricts effective data synthesis, impairing the ability of research to inform clinical practice. The development and use of a core outcome set (COS) for childbirth pelvic floor trauma aims to ensure consistent use of outcome measures and reporting of outcomes. METHODS: An international steering group, within CHORUS, an International Collaboration f
