A 34-year-old man was referred to our hospital for management of multiple trauma in consequence of a car accident. Initial examination showed mild intracranial hemorrhage proven by computed tomographic scan (CT) of the brain and multiple fractures of face and thigh. The authors offer a method of plastic reconstruction of the frontonasal anastomosis after radical surgery on the frontal sinus. The prosthesis made of hydrooxyappatite ceramics is established in the anastomosis created during radical surgery without additional fixation. Due to special biological properties of the material, the prosthesis firmly consolidates with bone walls of the anastomosis warranting reliable drainage and aeration of the frontal sinus.

Reconstructive middle ear surgery was introduced in the early fifties. Kley was one of the first to investigate the applicability of grafts and the functional restoration of the middle ear transformer. He also practiced a combined approach with anterior tympanoplasty and posterior mastoidectomy. PDT has been shown to be of value in inoperable basal and squamous skin cancers and in cutaneous metastases. Azone, a new investigative vehicle for HpD, is of value more for intralesional injections than for topical applications in tumors, except perhaps for superficial mucous membrane lesions. Over a period of 22 years the authors reconstructed 49 patients with radiation injuries of varying severity. The retrospective study examined the indications for the radiation therapy, the interval between the treatment and the development of tissue damage, its site and severity. A few typical case reports are presented. Particular aspects emerging from this series, the reconstructive methods used and the results achieved with regard to partial or complete excision of radiation damaged skin are discussed.

Von Willebrand's disease, a common hereditary bleeding disorder, may be responsible for undue or unanticipated intraoperative or postoperative hemorrhage. The diagnosis may be difficult to establish, although it may be suspected clinically and can usually be confirmed by adequate laboratory investigation.
