OBJECTIVES: To identify any prognostic factors that may be associated with the long-term survival of dogs diagnosed with tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC).
METHODS: The medical records of 15 dogs treated for TSCC were reviewed retrospectively. The signalment, presenting signs, clinical stage, treatments and outcome were documented.
RESULTS: The overall median survival time (MST) of the dogs in the study was 243 days. There was a 1-and 2-year survival of 40% and 20%, respectively. The results of initial staging had a significant effect on survival, as dogs with only one tonsil affected

Using the methods described, the author has performed AV-valve replacement surgery in seven clinical dogs with AV valve dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: To describe the appearance of lesions noted on abdominal computed tomography (CT) in dogs with spontaneous hemoperitoneum and determine the utility in using CT to differentiate benign from malignant lesions.

The anatomical inversion (heterotaxy) is usually detected in routine radiography or other medical interventions. Ten male and 4 female dogs with chronic hypertrophic pyloric gastropathy were seen at the Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the period 1982-88. The most commonly affected breeds were the Shihtzu and Maltese. The mean age was 8.2 yr and the mean body weight 6.5 kg. Two cattle were referred to the University Clinic for Ruminants of the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. The main clinical sign in both cattle was dyspnoea with nasal stridor. Clinical examination of the upper respiratory tract was conducted, supplemented by ultrasonography, endoscopy and radiography. In addition, histological, bacteriological, and cytological examinations of different specimen materials were performed. The cow of Case 1 suffered from cystic nasal conchae, which was treated successfully by a laser technique. The cow of Case 2 also suffered from cystic nasal conchae.
