Dysregulated human eccrine sweat glands can negatively impact the quality-of-life of people suffering from disorders like hyperhidrosis. BACKGROUND: Fluid secretion by sweat glands in response to heat and exercise is underpinned by increases in intracellular calcium. In horses, this is primarily via β2-adrenoceptors, but studies in equine sweat gland cell lines have indicated a possible role for purinergic agonists. Syringomas and Fox-Fordyce disease are appendageal skin disorders. While syringomas represent an adenoma of the intraepidermal eccrine duct, Fox Fordyce disease occurs due to blockage of the apocrine sweat duct. In both conditions, extragenital sites are more frequently involved than the genitalia. We herein report two young females, one with syringomas on the face and vulva and the other with Fox Fordyce disease involving axilla, areola and vulva, thereby citing the importance of examination of genitalia in these disorders.

A 51-year-old woman with carcinoma of the right axillary sweat glands was treated by radical surgery and radiotherapy. Six years later she developed multiple bilateral lung metastases. Nine nodes were resected from both lungs using a clamshell approach (bilateral transsternal, anterolateral thoracotomy). After surgery, the patient received 6 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluoruracil. Three years after treatment, no intrathoracic recurrences had occurred and the patient was asymptomatic, with good quality of life.

OBJECTIVE: This study describes a new sonographic finding in renal failure: perirenal lucency, which we call the "kidney sweat" sign.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: During 1 year at our institution, 502 renal sonograms were obtained. Sonography evaluated 330 patients with renal failure. All of the examinations were retrospectively analyzed.

A practical test for evaluating the sweating response to various concentrations of the specific beta 2 agonist, salbutamol sulphate, is described. The results of performing this test on horses (n = 54) considered to be "free sweaters", horses (n = 6) that showed signs of heat stress following exercise, and horses with complete anhidrosis (n = 2) are presented. It was impossible to replicate solar urticaria lesions by irradiation in the laboratory, until the role of sweating was recognized. We found that the sweat droplet, acting as a lens, serves as a photointensifier. As such, sweat would appear to play a meaningful role in the pathogenesis of cutaneous photosensitivity reactions, as well as be an adjuvant in phototesting.
