BACKGROUND: Enteric-coated mycophenolate sodium (EC-MPS) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) are prodrugs of mycophenolic acid (MPA). Although many patients still receive MMF as an inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor, EC-MPS could be considered a reliable alternative to MMF in the immunosuppressive protocols of kidney transplant recipients. The hypoglycemic effect of oral insulin capsules coated with pH-dependent Eudragit S100 and containing various absorption promoters was studied in hyperglycemic beagle dogs. The absorption enhancers used were bioadhesive polymers, sodium salicylate, and non-ionic surfactants. BACKGROUND: Sheng-Xue-Xiao-Ban Capsule (SXXBC), as a classic Chinese traditional medicine comprised of natural indigo, cortex moutan, forsythia, herba agrimoniae, and licorice, exhibits a heat-clearing and detoxicating function, hemostasis, and stasis dissipation, which is widely applied to treat idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). However, report on ischemic colitis and pulmonary embolism induced by SXXBC therapy is never disclosed. We report the case of an ITP patient who received SXXBC for ascending platelets that then induced ischemic colitis and pulmonary embolism.

METHODS: The clinical data of 30 patients with ankylosing spondylitis treated from January 2018 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Including 20 males and 10 females, aged from 18 to 50 years with an average of (34.50±9.60) years. All 30 patients had different degrees of sacroiliac joint bone marrow edema on MRI before treatment.

AIMS: Mycophenolate mofetil is an effective therapy for lupus nephritis (LN) and other glomerulonephritis (GN). However, gastrointestinal (GI) complications can limit its use. Enteric-coated mycophenolate sodium (EC-MPS) has been designed to reduce GI adverse events, but it has not been fully investigated in the treatment of GN.
METHODS: Patients with LN and primary GN who had received EC-MPS were studied for effects on renal function.
RESULTS: 30 subjects (17 LN, 13 primary GN) were studied. EC-MPS decreased proteinuria in both LN and GN. In LN, 16 patients had EC-MPS as induction therapy.
