Cognitive behavioral therapy for tobacco cessation among government bus drivers in Patna: Results from a randomized controlled trial.

The effectiveness of CBT compared to BHE for tobacco cessation remains unclear, particularly among government bus drivers in Patna. A randomized trial involving 200 smokers (aged 35-44) assessed outcomes at baseline, 4 and 12 weeks using the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), expired carbon monoxide (CO) and the Transtheoretical Model (TTM). Results showed that 60% of the CBT group quit smoking compared to 35% in the BHE group. CBT also led to a significant reduction in FTND scores and CO levels. This suggests that CBT is more effective than BHE in tobacco cessation. The study add

Efficacy of a WhatsApp-based program for nicotine and tobacco cessation among young people: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Nicotine and tobacco products are widely used by adolescents and young adults in Switzerland. At the same time, WhatsApp is one of the most frequently used digital communication platforms by this age group. Delivering individually tailored, evidence-based coaching messages via WhatsApp is a promising way to support young people in quitting nicotine use. This study protocol outlines a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of a semi-automated, WhatsApp-based intervention program to support nicotine cessation and reduction in adolescents and young adults. METHODS: A two-arm

ZnO nanoparticles delivered by metal-organic framework ZIF-8 are highly effective in controlling tobacco brown spot disease.

BACKGROUND: Fungal phytopathogens pose a significant threat to global crop yields. The overuse of pesticides leads to pesticide-resistant pathogens, environmental contamination and risks to human health. Consequently, there is an urgent need for effective and ecofriendly antifungal strategies to address these challenges. RESULTS: Herein, ZnO-ZIF-8 is synthesized via an in situ growth method to integrate the antifungal property of zinc oxide (ZnO) and the control release property of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)-8. Results suggest that the inhibition rates of ZnO, ZIF-8 and ZnO-ZIF-8 ag

The Tobacco Status Project (TSP): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial of a Facebook smoking cessation intervention for young adults.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use remains the leading cause of premature morbidity and mortality in the United States. Young adults are less successful at quitting, use cessation treatment less often than smokers of other ages, and can be a challenge to retain in treatment. Social media, integrated into the lives of many young adults, represents a promising strategy to deliver evidence-based smoking cessation treatment to a large, diverse audience. The goal of this trial is to test the efficacy of a stage-based smoking cessation intervention on Facebook for young adults age 18 to 25 on smoking abstinenc

Gender differences in a randomized controlled trial treating tobacco use among adolescents and young adults with mental health concerns.

INTRODUCTION: Treatment of tobacco use in mental health settings is rare despite high rates of comorbidity. With a focus on early intervention, we evaluated a tobacco treatment intervention among adolescents and young adults recruited from outpatient, school-based, and residential mental health settings and tested for gender differences. METHODS: Intervention participants received computerized motivational feedback at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months and were offered 12 weeks of cessation counseling and nicotine patches. Usual care participants received a self-help guide and brief cessation a

A randomized controlled trial of the effect of standardized patient scenarios on dental hygiene students' confidence in providing tobacco dependence counseling.

PURPOSE: Dental hygienists report a lack of confidence in initiating Tobacco Dependence Counseling (TDC) with their patients who smoke. The purpose of this study was to determine if the confidence of dental hygiene students in providing TDC can be increased by Standardized Patient (SP) training, and if that confidence can be sustained over time. METHODS: This 2-parallel group randomized design was used to compare the confidence of students receiving SP training to stu dents with no SP training. After a classroom lecture, all subjects (n=27) received a baseline test of knowledge and confidence

Enhancing implementation of tobacco use prevention and cessation counselling guideline among dental providers: a cluster randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use adversely affects oral health. Tobacco use prevention and cessation (TUPAC) counselling guidelines recommend that healthcare providers ask about each patient's tobacco use, assess the patient's readiness and willingness to stop, document tobacco use habits, advise the patient to stop, assist and help in quitting, and arrange monitoring of progress at follow-up appointments. Adherence to such guidelines, especially among dental providers, is poor. To improve guideline implementation, it is essential to understand factors influencing it and find effective ways to influenc

Harmonizing mind acupuncture combined with nicotine replacement therapy for tobacco use disorder: a protocol for a pragmatic randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use disorder (TUD) remains a leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is recommended as a first-line treatment, its effectiveness is limited by persistent craving and withdrawal symptoms, resulting in high relapse rates. Acupuncture has been investigated as an adjunctive therapy; however, existing evidence is inconsistent and limited by methodological heterogeneity. High-quality pragmatic randomized controlled trials are needed. The co-primary outcomes are nicotine craving reduction (VAS) and biochemically v

The Moderating Effect of Tobacco Smoking on the Efficacy of a Computer-Based Brief Alcohol Intervention: Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Alcohol consumption and tobacco smoking may have synergistic harmful effects when present in combination. This combination is highly prevalent and associated with a multitude of diseases. Brief alcohol intervention (BAI) may be less effective among persons who drink alcohol and smoke tobacco than among persons who drink alcohol and do not smoke. The aim of this study was to find out whether BAI is more effective among adults who do not smoke than among those who smoke. METHODS: This study reports secondary outcome analyses of the randomized controlled trial "Testing a proactive

Effects of brief mindfulness training on smoking cue-reactivity in tobacco use disorder: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of Tobacco Use Disorder (TUD) represents a significant and pressing global public health concern, with far-reaching and deleterious consequences for individuals, communities, and healthcare systems. The craving caused by smoking cue is an important trigger for relapse, fundamentally hindering the cessation of cigarette smoking. Mindfulness interventions focusing on cue-reactivity was effective for the treatment of related dependence. Brief mindfulness training (BMT) meets the short-term needs for intervention but the effects still need to be examined. The objective o
