pH-responsive self-assembly of natural saponin glycyrrhizic acid.

Glycyrrhizic acid (GA), as a naturally occurring saponin biosurfactant, has been widely used to construct supramolecular functional materials, derived from its hierarchical self-assembly behavior and advantages like bioavailability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. However, the underlying mechanisms of its stimuli-responsive self-assembly in solution, which is crucial for designing advanced structures, remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the self-assembly behavior of GA in aqueous solution across a pH range of 2-8, using the combination of a range of microscopy techniques, s

Transformed cell suspension culture of Galphimia glauca producing sedative nor-friedelanes.

The Mexican species GALPHIMIA GLAUCA (Cav.) Kuntze (Malphigiaceae) synthesises a family of sedative and anxiolytic nor-secofriedelanes, designated as galphimines. These active principles accumulate at low concentration in the aerial parts of plants from wild populations. Transformed calluses and cell suspension cultures of this species were established in order to induce a greater production of nor-friedelanes. The cell suspension line GgBa was selected and grown over a period of two years of continuous subculturing in MS nutrient medium in the absence of growth regulators. PCR and Southern bl

[Bioactive components of holothurians: Molecular bases and mechanisms of geroprotective action.].

Modern gerontology views aging as a plastic process, opening opportunities for its modulation through nutritional and pharmacological interventions. This review focuses on a comprehensive analysis of a unique marine biological source - holothurian (sea cucumber) tissues - considered as a promising multicomponent basis for the development of novel geroprotective agents. Key bioactive compounds, primarily isolated from the body wall, are examined in detail: low-molecular-weight matrikine peptides and a unique spectrum of triterpene glycosides. Their ability for synergistic, multitargeted action

Context-dependent modulation of the TAK1-MAPK axis by ginsenoside-based formulations along the NAFLD-HCC continuum.

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a dynamic metabolic liver disorder that can progress to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Stress-responsive signaling pathways, particularly the transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1)-mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) axis, play context-dependent roles in hepatocyte survival, disease adaptation, and tumorigenesis. METHODS: Two ginseng-derived formulations with distinct biological properties were investigated: a non-cytotoxic Rg5/Rk1-triterpene complex and a cytotoxic Rg3/paclitaxel liposomal formulation. Cytotoxicity
