Why some people do not get vaccinated against COVID-19: Social-cognitive determinants of vaccination behavior.

It is puzzling that a sizeable percentage of people refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19. This study aimed to examine social psychological factors influencing their vaccine hesitancy. This longitudinal study traced a cohort of 2663 individuals in 25 countries from the time before COVID-19 vaccines became available (March 2020) to July 2021, when vaccination was widely available. Multilevel logistic regressions were used to examine determinants of actual COVID-19 vaccination behavior by July 2021, with country-level intercept as random effect. Of the 2663 participants, 2186 (82.1%) had bee

Parental attitudes and decision-making regarding MMR vaccination in an anthroposophic community in Sweden--a qualitative study.

Measles outbreaks occur regularly throughout Europe, up to 31500 cases in the previous year, particularly where there are pockets of populations with lower vaccination coverage than the recommended ≥ 95%. Anthroposophic communities in Europe are one of several groups with relatively low vaccination coverage. In Sweden, outbreaks of measles and rubella were reported from an anthroposophic community. Thus the aim of this qualitative study was to explore facilitators and barriers to MMR vaccination among parents living in anthroposophic communities in Sweden. Twenty parents living in an anthropos

The role of health beliefs in COVID-19 vaccination acceptance: A Meta-analysis.

This study employed a meta-analytic approach to examine the relationships between the Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs and COVID-19 vaccination acceptance. A comprehensive literature search identified 77 eligible studies with a combined sample size of 83,995 participants. Quantitative synthesis of the extracted data revealed that perceived benefits (r = 0.40) was the strongest positive predictor of individuals' vaccine acceptance, indicating a medium-to-large effect. Perceived severity (r = 0.17) and susceptibility (r = 0.18) to COVID-19 were also significant positive predictors, each with

Measles: taking steps forward to prevent going backwards.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The measles vaccine, first introduced in 1963, directly led to a dramatic decrease in the incidence of the disease. Measles transitioned from being a common childhood disease, affecting approximately three to four million children annually, to being eradicated in the United States in 2000. What was once an astounding victory for modern medicine, however, has recently seen a dramatic reversal in fortune, with a resurgence of measles cases in the United States. Hence, it merits careful discussion. RECENT FINDINGS: The United States has seen more measles cases in 2019 than in

Understanding Vaccine Hesitancy Among Parents of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Parents of Children With Non-Autism Developmental Delays.

Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may be at greater risk for developing antivaccine beliefs that lead to vaccine delays and/or refusals for their children. We investigated current parental vaccine hesitancy, parents' beliefs about causes of children's developmental delays, and children's vaccination histories among parents of children with ASD or non-ASD developmental delays. Data were analyzed from 89/511 parents (17.4%) who completed the Parent Attitudes About Childhood Vaccines questionnaire and the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire; 46.1% had childhood vaccinat

[Knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents on vaccination against polio in Abeche-Tchad].

INTRODUCTION: in Chad, transmission of poliovirus has been interrupted in 2000, but imports from Nigeria and weakness of vaccination coverage are a major risk of disease reactivation. This study aims to investigate knowledge, attitudes and practices of parents of children aged 0 to 5 years on vaccination against polio in Chad. METHODS: this cross-sectional study was carried out in the six districts of Abéché. Only households who had children under 5 years of age were included. Data were collected through interviews with parents and guardians of eligible children using a tested and validated q

Acceptance of COVID-19 Vaccine and Associated Factors Among Pregnant Women in Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) vaccination has been established as preventing severe and mortal COVID-19. Vaccination is critical strategy in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, to restrict infections and reduce disease severity. Vaccination coverage will be more extensive if we can better identify vaccination barriers in the population, especially among vulnerable groups, of which one is pregnant women. The aim of this study was to determine the level of acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination and detect the factors that influence vaccine acceptance among pregnant women in Saudi Arab

Human papillomavirus vaccine uptake among adolescent girls living with HIV in Côte d'Ivoire: A national cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programs are scaling-up in low-and-middle-income countries, targeting girls aged 9 to 14, usually through a school-based approach. However, specific data on adolescent girls living with HIV (AGLHIV) are lacking. We estimated the HPV vaccine uptake and its determinants among AGLHIV in Côte d'Ivoire. METHODS: A nationally representative survey was conducted within HIV pediatric facilities from July 2024 to February 2025 through a mixed-method approach. Participating facilities were selected through a hybrid sampling combining the inclusion of t

Vaccine hesitancy and Web 2.0: Exploring how attitudes and beliefs about influenza vaccination are exchanged in online threaded user comments.

The growth of Web 2.0 has been particularly impactful in shaping information assessment in decision-making with regards to vaccination. The aim of the present study was to explore how attitudes and beliefs about influenza vaccination are exchanged in Web 2.0 through an analysis of user comment threads in response to related news reports on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation national news website (average of 5.8 million unique visitors per month). User comments (n = 2042) were extracted using a Google Chrome data mining extension, from 33 articles reporting on the seasonal influenza vaccine

A questionnaire survey for Japanese parents on intention to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 and influenza.

BACKGROUND: Since 2024, coronavirus (COVID-19) and influenza vaccines for children have been voluntarily administered in Japan. Evaluating parental intentions to receive these vaccinations and the reasons for vaccine hesitancy may elucidate issues regarding vaccine confidence. This study aimed to evaluate the intention of parents to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 and influenza. METHODS: A questionnaire survey was conducted between July and October 2024. Eligible participants were parents or caregivers of at least one child aged 6 months to 17 years. The questionnaire asked the pare

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) towards seasonal influenza and influenza vaccine among pregnant women in Kyrgyzstan: A cross-sectional study.

Influenza is an acute respiratory disease of global importance due to its pandemic potential. Pregnant women are more susceptible to severe illness and adverse outcomes of influenza, and vaccination is the most effective preventive measure for mother and infant. The coverage rate of influenza immunization in Kyrgyzstan is below national targets, despite the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommendation to prioritize pregnant women for vaccination. This study sought to understand drivers and barriers to influenza vaccine uptake in pregnant women in Kyrgyzstan. A knowledge, attitudes, and pra

Vaccine hesitancy and reported non-vaccination in an Irish pediatric outpatient population.

Vaccine hesitancy is defined as a delay in acceptance, or refusal, of vaccines, despite availability. It is a complex and context specific phenomenon and identified as a global health priority. The "Parent Attitudes about Childhood Vaccines" (PACV) questionnaire is a validated tool for identifying vaccine hesitancy. Our aim was to use the PACV to assess vaccine hesitancy and its relationship with reported non-vaccination in an Irish population, for the first time. Our participants were parents or caregivers of children attending general pediatric clinics in a tertiary pediatric hospital in Dub

Coverage with Timely Administered Vaccination against Hepatitis B Virus and Its Influence on the Prevalence of HBV Infection in the Regions of Different Endemicity.

Universal hepatitis B vaccination of newborns was implemented in Russia starting from 1998. From 1998 to 2019, the incidence of acute hepatitis B reduced from 43.8 to 0.57 cases per 100,000 population. Here, we assessed the timely coverage of newborns with the birth dose (HepB-BD), second dose (HepB-2nd), and three vaccine doses (HepB3) in two remote regions of Russia with low (Belgorod Oblast) and high (Yakutia) levels of hepatitis B virus (HBV) endemicity. Vaccination data were obtained from the medical records of 1000 children in Yakutia and 2182 children in Belgorod Oblast. Sera of healthy

MMR vaccination advice over the Internet.

We wanted to investigate what advice UK homeopaths, chiropractors and general practitioners give on measles, mumps and rubella vaccination programme (MMR) vaccination via the Internet. Online referral directories listing e-mail addresses of UK homeopaths, chiropractors and general practitioners and private websites were visited. All addresses thus located received a letter of a (fictitious) patient asking for advice about the MMR vaccination. After sending a follow-up letter explaining the nature and aim of this project and offering the option of withdrawal, 26% of all respondents withdrew the

Changes in HPV vaccine hesitancy and influencing factors among female university students in China: A national repeated study.

HPV vaccine hesitancy remains a critical barrier to cervical cancer prevention in China despite a series of strategic policy initiatives. Our study conducted two large-scale online cross-sectional surveys in 2022 and 2025 among nationally representative samples of female university students, applying propensity score matching to enhance comparability. HPV vaccine hesitancy, assessed on a 0-10 scale (including graded hesitancy and refusal), increased significantly over time, with prevalence rising from 8.8% to 21.6%, and mean hesitancy scores also increasing. Although HPV knowledge improved and

Compliance with immunization and a biological risk assessment of health care workers as part of an occupational health surveillance program: The experience of a university hospital in southern Italy.

BACKGROUND: The active immunization of health care workers (HCWs) is a primary measure to prevent nosocomial infection; despite this, vaccine coverage among HCWs in most countries is low. To increase vaccine coverage in the health care setting, the hygiene and occupational medicine departments of Bari Policlinico General University-Hospital implemented a vaccination procedure. This operative procedure requires that during the occupational medical examination, all employees are evaluated for immunity/susceptibility to vaccine-preventable diseases, with vaccination offered to those determined to

Study on the Vaccination of the Population of Romania against Monkeypox in Terms of Medical Security.

Although it has been shown in numerous studies that immunization of the population by vaccination is the most effective way to protect against smallpox or other polioviruses, the anti-vaccination public rhetoric recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to influence the populations acceptance of vaccination against newly emerging viruses. This fact influenced our decision to study the vaccination of the Romanian population against the virus that causes monkeypox, aiming to identify the degree of compliance regarding the decision related to vaccination acceptance/non-acceptance/hesitation

Pushed to the Fringe - The Impact of Vaccine Hesitancy on Children and Families.

Vaccine hesitancy has been described as any delay or refusal of vaccines despite their availability and is increasing in Australia and other middle to high-income countries. The aim of this study is to gain a deep understanding of the experiences and influences on vaccine hesitant children and their families. A qualitative interview approach was undertaken with vaccine hesitant parents and pregnant women (n = 12). Semi-structured interviews were conducted by telephone. Inductive thematic analysis was undertaken on data obtained using the guidelines of Braun and Clarke. Three main themes were i
