BACKGROUND: Non-AIDS defining cancers (NADCs) have been an increasing cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with HIV. There is no data on the spectrum of NADCs in Mexico. We describe the type of neoplasms, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of HIV-infected patients with NADCs.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of all patients with confirmed diagnosis of NADC attending the HIV/AIDS clinic at the National Cancer Institute in Mexico City (a tertiary-care center for adult patients with cancer) from January 1990 to December 2016.

Vaginal adenosis, without a history of diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure, is a rare condition with an unclear etiology. A 24-year-old female presented with complaints of persistent vaginal discharge and dyspareunia. On examination, there were red, patchy, diffuse lesions on the vaginal wall and cervix. Histopathologic examination of the lesions revealed vaginal adenosis with chronic inflammation. Due to a poor response to metronidazole and tetracycline treatments, unipolar cauterization was performed with successful removal of the lesions.

Two unusual cases of vaginal adenosis in non-diethylstilbestrol (DES)-exposed patients are presented. These cases created an initial difficulty in histological classification and exclusion of the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. The first case presented a problem of atypical columnar epithelium with simple gland architecture, while the second showed a pseudoinfiltrative pattern of small glands, but without cytological atypia. Fibro epithelial polyp of the vagina is a rare lesion. Although benign, it can be confused with Sarcoma botryoides, rhabdomyosarcoma and mixed mesodermal tumor because of its bizarre histology. A case is reported of a women 27 years old with a great pedunculated polyp of the vagina which measured 8 x 12 cm. The microscopy examination revealed fibro epithelial polyp of the vagina. Treatment is simple local excision. Recurrence is uncommon.
