LocaliType: Development of locality-based social determinants of health archetypes using census tract data from the UCSF Health Atlas.

Locality archetypes (denoted as LocaliTypes) - neighborhood, district, or nearby region patterns shaped by multiple social determinants of health (SDOH) - offer a novel approach to understanding place-based inequalities while preserving data confidentiality in the era of big data. Using 2020 U.S. Census shaped census tract-level data from the UCSF Health Atlas, we developed LocaliTypes and conducted exploratory validation analyses. We grouped 107 variables spanning race/ethnicity, socioeconomic conditions, environmental exposures, and disaster risk into five domains using large language model-

Conversational Artificial Intelligence and Neuropsychiatric Risk: A Narrative Review and Case-Based Synthesis Proposing a Delusional Feedback Loop.

Conversational AI, powered by artificial intelligence, is becoming a common tool for accessing health information, educating patients, and obtaining general medical advice. These advanced systems, known as large language models, can produce responses that sound remarkably human. Nevertheless, these systems are prone to "AI confabulations," whereby they confidently generate incorrect information that could harm patients. This highlights the need to inform healthcare workers and individuals who may be prone to trusting these devices. New evidence suggests that AI may also exacerbate mental healt…

Impact of loneliness and living alone on negative symptoms in severe mental illness: An electronic health record data analysis.

Important changes in symptom profiles occur early in the course of severe mental illness (SMI) after its clinical presentation. The emergence of negative symptoms is of particular concern for later function, and these may well have strong links with loneliness and poor social support which are also recognised to be common. However, the impact of loneliness and social isolation on symptoms and treatment outcomes remains unclear. To explore this, we conducted a retrospective observational analysis using data from electronic health records of a large mental health provider in London. Loneliness,

Risk factors for vasovagal reactions in blood donors: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: While blood donation is generally safe, some donors experience vasovagal reactions (VVRs) that may lead to injury and reduce likelihood of future donation. Several risk factors for VVRs have been identified, but the consistency, magnitude, and validity of their associations have not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized evidence for VVR risk factors. METHODS: Database searches identified English-language studies published before February 2024 describing VVR risk factors in voluntary whole blood donors. Study characteristics,
