[Inability to work before and after operation for carpal tunnel syndrome].

INTRODUCTION: Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common compressive neuropathy, affecting approximately 5.8% women and 0.6% men. In consideration of its commonness and occurrence in persons in employment age it is considered a cause of significant work absence. Operative treatment of the syndrome results in temporary decreasing of the power and dexterity of the hand, what is also a cause of inability to work. There is lack of information in Polish literature about the dimension of this problem. The objective of this study was to determinate a work absence caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, both

Accuracy of end-tidal and transcutaneous PCO2 monitoring during sleep.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Although it is intuitively desirable, the measurement of arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2) during diagnostic polysomnography and nocturnal trials of positive pressure therapy is invasive and potentially expensive. The accuracy of end-tidal carbon dioxide tension (PETCO2) and transcutaneous carbon dioxide (tcPCO2) monitoring in these contexts has not been systematically evaluated. This investigation was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy of PETCO2 and tcPCO2 in patients undergoing polysomnography. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: Values of PETCO2 were compared with PaCO2 in 19 p

Coproducing an Online Platform for People With Long-Term Physical Health Conditions: Development and Usability Study.

BACKGROUND: There is relatively limited psychological support dedicated to people living with long-term physical health conditions and subthreshold depressive disorder. Online peer support may be an appropriate intervention to help bolster patients' mental well-being to prevent progression of their symptoms to major depressive disorder. For interventions to be successfully integrated into the self-management routines of people with long-term physical health conditions, they should be co-designed to ensure that they align with the wants and needs of the target audience. OBJECTIVE: This study a

Postural Education in School-Aged Populations: Development and Usability Evaluation of a Mobile Biofeedback App (EduBack).

BACKGROUND: Postural education is crucial during childhood and adolescence, yet traditional approaches often lack engaging tools that promote awareness and behavioral change. Wearable technologies and real-time biofeedback systems offer new opportunities to support postural learning through immediate, embodied feedback. However, most existing systems focus on clinical rehabilitation, with few designed specifically for educational use. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to design, develop, and evaluate the usability and technical performance of EduBack, a mobile app that delivers real-time lumbar pos

Prescriber's Preferences for Digital Health Applications in Mental Health Care: Cross-Sectional Best-Worst Scaling Study of General Practitioners and Psychotherapists in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders affect nearly one-third of adults in Germany, with a 12-month prevalence of approximately 28%. Following Germany's 2019 Digital Care Act, digital health applications (Digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen [DiGA]) became reimbursable interventions by the statutory health insurance for mental health conditions. However, adoption remains uneven. General practitioners (GPs) issue most mental health DiGA prescriptions, while psychotherapists or psychiatrists prescribe far fewer, even though most DiGA target mental health. Existing studies imply profession-specific barriers bu

Donor age and cold ischemia time combined predict early mortality after long-distance liver procurement.

BACKGROUND: The increasing need to expand the donor pool has led to greater utilization of liver grafts procured at a distance from transplant centers, inevitably prolonging cold ischemia time. Whether long-distance procurement independently affects early outcomes or whether risk is primarily driven by donor-related factors remains uncertain. AIMS: We evaluated the impact of procurement distance on early post-transplant survival and investigated whether the combined effect of donor age and cold ischemia time could define a clinically meaningful risk threshold. RESULTS: We performed a retrosp

Rating certainty of evidence when the target threshold is a value-based threshold and the point estimate is close to that threshold.

OBJECTIVES: It is crucial, when using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), that authors are clear about what it is in which they are rating the certainty of evidence (ie, the target of certainty of evidence rating). This article addresses challenges GRADE users face in choosing a target of certainty rating for any value-based threshold (ie, little or no difference; an important effect; small, moderate or large difference) when the point estimate is close to that threshold. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Using an iterative process, authors generated and refined

Postoperative Complications After Indocyanine Green-Guided Colorectal Cancer Surgery: Report of an Unexpected Severity Signal From a Prospective Cohort Study With Cluster-Based Allocation.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) is increasingly used in colorectal cancer surgery to assess intraoperative anastomotic perfusion and potentially reduce postoperative complications, particularly anastomotic leakage. However, the magnitude and consistency of the benefit remain debated, especially regarding complication severity. We report the impact of ICG-FA on postoperative complications in a single-center prospective comparative cohort study with cluster-based group allocation, with particular focus on an unexpected severity signal observed in ou

Measuring Electrophysiological Activity in Acute Brain Slices, Spheroids, and Organoids Using 3D High-Density Multielectrode Arrays.

Animal and human stem cell-derived three-dimensional models to study physio-pathological brain functioning are becoming a gold standard for in vitro electrophysiology, as they enable the recapitulation of complex network properties by accounting for spatial architectural features that better reflect in vivo conditions than simpler 2D models. Standard planar multielectrode arrays (MEAs), typically providing tens of recording electrodes, are commonly used to record activity from 2D neuronal cultures. However, when adapted for use with 3D models, planar 2D MEAs showed limited effectiveness. The m

Prenatal prediction of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome using uteroplacental Doppler and placental microvascular perfusion indices: development of a risk model.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality; however, current antenatal risk assessments lack physiological specificity. This study aimed to evaluate the early predictive value of mid-pregnancy placental perfusion indices derived from three-dimensional power Doppler (3D-PD) imaging-the vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularization flow index (VFI)-together with conventional Doppler parameters [e.g., the uterine artery pulsatility index (UtA-PI), cerebroplacental ratio (CPR)] and maternal clinical factors fo
