Angio-Seal is a frequently used vascular closure device after arterial catheterisation. Major complications are infrequently reported. We present four cases occurring within a 2-month period in our hospital with dislodgement of an Angio-Seal causing acute arterial occlusion, resulting in loss of limb in one case. Surgical intervention was necessary in all cases. Acute arterial occlusion after deployment of the Angio-Seal in patients with peripheral arterial disease might be less uncommon than the literature suggests.

Minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures are gaining widespread acceptance with the advent and development of the femoral route for cardiopulmonary bypass. Aortic endoclamps are widely used and are one of the most important parts of these surgical techniques. This report presents iliac arterial intussusception from an aortic endoclamp catheter, which is a very rare complication with this type of device. Preventative strategies are presented.

We reviewed our experience with the different types of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters used over 4 years for the incidence of complications and correlated this with the type of filter used. This is a retrospective study involving chart reviews of all the patients who received IVC filters placed between January 2002 and January 2006. PURPOSE: Approximately 200,000 central venous catheterizations are carried out annually in the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. Inadvertent arterial puncture occurs in up to 3.7%. This randomised prospective trial compared the efficacy of sodium bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide ear drops in clearing a blocked tympanostomy tube. Tympanostomy tubes, 110 in number, obstructed with blood or inspissated secretions were randomised into treatment and control groups. Details of the operative procedure were retrospectively collected from the patients notes. The patients were reviewed after 2 weeks for both clinical and tympanometric evidence of clearance of the tube and evidence of complications of the drops.
