The author conducted a clinical and EEG study of 308 patients with severe acute poisoning (by barbiturates, phosphororganic compounds, ethyl alcohol, noxiron, elenium, narcotics, carbon monoxide, tubazide, ethylenglycole and dichlorethan). It is shown that EEG changes in combination with clinical and toxicological data permit to qualify more precisely the form of poisoning and conduct specific therapy.

An analysis of more than 1000 cases of early organic brain lesions has demonstrated that in 54% of them the etiology of neurological disturbances was an antenatal pathology, in 38%-intranatal and in 8%-postnatal. The prevention of perinatal disorders of the nervous system is considered as a complex problem including measures of health prevention for the future mothers, control over the development of pregnancy, perfection of obstetric aid, effective measures for the prevention of tissue hypoxia and its sequalae, elaboration of methods of rehabilitative therapy, work with personnel.

The author for the first time conducted a EMG study of 75 children with obstetrical paralysis of the hands during the neonatal period and in children of an older age. In the majority of the cases there were certain changes of the EMG, characteristic of lesions of the spinal segmentary structures and not of the plexi as it was considered previously. In order to study the clinico-electroneurographical correlations in early brachial plexitis of the newborn the authors studied 118 children from the moment of birth up to 1.5-4 years. The depicted disorders were divided into 4 groups: the upper form of Duchenne-Erb--48 cases; the lower forms of Dejerine-Klumpke--27 cases; total forms--31 cases and bilateral forms--12 cases. In order to clarify the state of bioelectrical muscular activity in relation to the severity of the disease and the localization of the pathological process in Urowsche disease, the author examined 107 patients and 27 normals. The achieved data point to quantitative and qualitative differences of the bioelectrical muscular activity in patients and normals. In Urowsche disease in all stages of rest, in deep inhalation and synergia, electrical activity was not present. In a voluntary muscular contraction in 45.5% of the muscles there was type I in the EMG, 33.4% -- type II and 21.1% -- type IV.

The authors conducted a clinico-EMG study of 118 patients with an embolism of the aortal bifurcation and magistral arteries of the lower extremities. Among this contingent 58 were studied in the remote period -- from 2-7 years following a surgical operation. The clinical symptoms of embolism were expressed in severe pain, sensory, motor and vegetative-trophic disturbances in the affected extremities. Three degrees of the nervous system lesions were distinguished in an embolism. It was also demonstrated that there were significant changes in the bioelectrical muscle activity of the extremities.

The author examined 30 patients in whom the psychic condition in adolescence was characterized by "metaphysical (philosophical) intoxication". This phenomenon was qualified as an adolescent variant of over-valued ideas. It was established as well that these traits develop in personalities of a schizoid character. The conditions as a whole was considered as pubertal decompensation in schizoid psychopathy. The authors outline the main regularities in the dynamics of the formation of constitutional psychopathy in childhood and adolescence on the models of epileptoid and schizoid psychopathy. Some age traits of psychopathical and psychogenic reactions and their role in the formation of constitutional psychopathy are discussed. The period of their formation is considered as psychopathic development, due to a complex interaction of constitutional anomalies of temperament, instincts and drives with the micro-socio-psychological environment.

The authors examined 104 patients with epidemic encephalitis (48 in the acute stage and 56 in chronic). In the acute stage the following forms were distinguished: vestibular, lethargic, hyperkinetic and psychosensory. The chronic stage included postencephalitic parkinsonism, hyperkinetic and lethargic forms. The acute stage had a mild development without lethal outcomes. The specific traits of epidemic encephalitis in this region were the frequency of vestibular forms in the acute stage and hyperkinetic forms in the chronic one.

The report contains data concerning examinations of 14 patients with a progressive development of tick-borne encephalitis In all the observed cases an acute period in the development of the disease was not diagnosed. The examined contingent constituted 18% of the number of established chronic forms of tick-borne encephalitis. The report contains the results of clinico-dynamic studies of mental disorders in patients with Schilder's leukoencephalitis and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis after van-Bogart. The authors come to the conclusion that only parallel comparisons of the psychopathological symptomatology with focal neurological signs and a simultaneous study of the EEG and other paraclinical indices may facilitate the differential diagnosis of encephalitis.
