5-year follow-up of a fully implanted brain-computer interface in a spinal cord injury patient.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects over 250 000 individuals in the US. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) may improve quality of life by controlling external devices. Invasive intracortical BCIs have shown promise in clinical trials but degrade in the chronic period and tether patients to acquisition hardware. Alternatively, electrocorticography (ECoG) records data from electrodes on the cortex, and studies evaluating fully implanted BCI-ECoG systems are scarce. Objective. We seek to address this need using a fully implanted ECoG-based BCI that allows for home use in SCI.Approach.The patient used a

Domain-Specific Data Augmentation for Lung Nodule Malignancy Classification.

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, mainly due to late diagnosis. Screening programs can benefit from Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems that detect and classify lung nodules using Computed Tomography (CT) scans. A great proportion of the literature proposes deep learning models based on single and private datasets with no evaluation of their generalisation capability. The main goal of this work is to study and address the lack of generalisation to out-of-domain data (source domain different from the target domain). In this work, we propose using a

Accelerometry is a valid method to distinguish between healthy and 6-OHDA-lesioned parkinsonian rats.

In Parkinson's disease (PD), continuous sensor-based evaluation of motor symptom severity, e.g., using accelerometry, has become an emerging field of interest in clinical research. Continuous symptom monitoring would also be of interest in preclinical disease models; however, such devices are far less established in animal models, most likely due to additional requirements in size, energy consumption, and impairment-free attachment. In contrast, accelerometers manufactured in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology are promising sensor devices, which allow for space-saving and energ

Computer Simulation of Sulfated Cyclodextrin-Based Enantioselective Separation of Weak Bases With Partial, High-Concentration Filling of the Chiral Selector and Analyte Detection on the Cathodic Side.

Computer simulation was utilized to characterize the electrophoretic processes occurring during the enantioselective capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS) analysis of ketamine, norketamine, and hydroxynorketamine in a system with partial filling of the capillary with 19 mM (equals 5%) of highly sulfated γ-cyclodextrin (HS-γ-CD) and analyte detection on the cathodic side. Provided that the sample is applied without or with a small amount of the chiral selector, analytes become quickly focused and separated in the thereby formed HS-γ-CD gradient at the cathodic end of the sample co

When losing hurt together: investigating the role of Empathy during a card game by EEG Hyperscanning.

Social neuroscience research investigates the neural basis of social cognition, which encompasses various cognitive abilities involved in processing social information, such as empathy. Empathy is a key function driving human socialization and can be defined as the ability to perceive others' feelings. When studying the neural basis of this process, recent research has highlighted the limitations of the traditional approach, which focuses on the study of the brain activity of a single subject engaged in a social interaction. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of social behavior, neuros

Meta-TIP: An Unsupervised End-to-End Fusion Network for Multi-Dataset Style-Adaptive Threat Image Projection.

Threat Image Projection (TIP) is a convenient and effective means to expand X-ray baggage images, which is essential for training both security personnel and computer-aided screening systems. Existing methods are primarily divided into two categories: X-ray imaging principle-based methods and GAN-based generative methods. The former cast prohibited items acquisition and projection as two individual steps and rarely consider the style consistency between the source prohibited items and target X-ray images from different datasets, making them less flexible and reliable for practical applications

The use of geographic information systems (GIS) in studying mental health service delivery: A scoping review.

Geographic information systems (GIS) are computer-based spatial mapping tools widely used in public health to examine service availability and access disparities and healthcare utilization. While GIS has supported evidence-based health planning in various domains, its application in mental healthcare service delivery remains underexplored. Our scoping review aimed to address this gap by exploring the scope and type of GIS usage in studying three dimensions of mental health (MH) service delivery (availability, accessibility and utilization), across all geographical locations, settings and popul
