INTRODUCTION: Pure posterior dislocation of the elbow is frequent in young subjects. The objective of treatment must be to reduce the dislocation and avoid complications, the most frequent being stiffness, but also elbow instability. The objective of this prospective study was to evaluate the functional and anatomical characteristics of two treatment modalities: plaster immobilization and early mobilization.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 50 cases of pure posterior dislocation of the elbow were included in a prospective study and randomized to two groups: Group I: twenty six cases were treated by redu

INTRODUCTION: The lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) is a primary elbow stabilizer against posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI). Direct repair is the treatment of choice in the acute setting, whereas reconstruction is the best option in patients with chronic PLRI. Several autograft/allograft solutions can be used to perform LUCL reconstruction, including a local extensor fascia septum autograft.
METHODS: In this retrospective multicenter study, 38 patients (26 males and 12 females) with chronic PLRI of the elbow underwent LUCL reconstruction with a local extensor fascia septum aut

OBJECTIVE: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is an established treatment for cervical degenerative disc disease; however, the procedure can cause loss of cervical spine range of motion and potentially accelerate adjacent segment degeneration. Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) seeks to preserve native motion of the cervical spine, which can theoretically reduce the incidence of adjacent level degeneration. The literature regarding the relative efficacy of ACDF versus CDA remains inconsistent. In this study, the authors investigate the difference in outcomes between ACDF and CDA and

OBJECTIVE: Closed reduction of pelvic injuries is a prerequisite and critical step in minimally invasive treatment. Achieving non-invasive closed reduction of pelvic injuries is a challenging clinical problem. This study demonstrated a non-invasive traction technique for closed reduction called countertraction closed reduction technique (CCRT) and evaluated its effectiveness for type C pelvic ring injuries.
METHOD: The data of patients with unstable pelvic fractures treated with CCRT and minimally invasive fixation were retrospectively reviewed from January 2017 to February 2022. Sacroiliac s

Introduction Femoral head fractures, specifically Pipkin Type I and Type II, are uncommon injuries often linked with posterior hip dislocations. Management strategies for these fractures range from conservative treatments to various surgical procedures, with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) being a notable option. The surgical approach for ORIF varies, and due to the rarity of the injury, a standardized management protocol is lacking. This study aims to evaluate the outcome of managing Pipkin Type I and Type II femoral head fractures using ORIF through Ganz surgical dislocation of t

BACKGROUND: Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP; OMIM #135100) is an ultrarare genetic disorder characterised by congenital bilateral hallux valgus (CBHV), intermittent soft tissue swellings and progressive heterotopic ossification. We report a three-month-old girl with great toe abnormalities similar to FOP, in whom comprehensive clinical workup and genetic investigations illustrates an alternative diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A three-month-old girl presented with CBHV. The antenatal period was unremarkable, she was born by spontaneous vaginal delivery with an uneventful subsequent c

BACKGROUND: The terrible triad injury (TTI) of the elbow is a combination of a posterolateral dislocation of the elbow joint combined with fractures of the radial head and coronoid process most often caused by a fall on an outstretched hand. The injury pattern was named for its poor outcomes and high complication rates following surgical repair, but increased understanding of elbow anatomy and biomechanics has led to the development of standardized surgical protocols in an attempt to improve outcomes. Most existing literature on terrible triad injuries is from small retrospective cohort studie

Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) is a rare genetic disease characterized by heterotopic ossification (HO) that occurs in muscle tissue, tendons, and ligaments. The disease is caused by mutations in the Activin receptor type I (ACVR1) gene resulting in enhanced responsiveness to Activin-A. Binding of this molecule to the mutated receptor induces HO. Bone metabolism normally requires the coupled action of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which seems to be disturbed during HO. We hypothesize that Activin-A may also counteract the formation of osteoclasts in FOP patients. In this study we i
