Virtual reality-based therapeutic intervention to prevent delirium in the intensive care unit: a systematic review of participant experiences, acceptability, and implementation implications.

OBJECTIVE: Delirium is common in intensive care units (ICUs) and is associated with adverse outcomes. Virtual reality (VR) is a non-pharmacological modality that may mitigate contributory factors such as sensory deprivation, anxiety, and immobility. This study aims to synthesise acceptability, feasibility, safety/tolerability, and implementation‑relevant outcomes of VR for ICU delirium prevention. METHODS: Systematic review of 11 databases (PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, PsycINFO, AMED, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, Weipu, CBM) from January 2012 to June 2026. Eligible studies eval

Understanding the Evidence-to-Practice Gap in Persistent Pain Management.

PURPOSE: Despite advances in pain science education, evidence-based approaches to chronic pain are not consistently translated into physical therapy practice. Physical therapist (PT) clinical instructors (CIs) occupy a unique role as both clinicians and mentors of future practitioners. This study examined PT CIs' pain knowledge, pain-related beliefs, confidence, and self-reported use of pain neuroscience education (PNE) and explored perceived barriers to implementing evidence-informed persistent pain management and preparing students to care for individuals with persistent pain. METHODS: This

Breastfeeding practices and perspectives in the setting of maternal HIV in high-income countries since the shift in the United States national guidelines: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: United States national guidelines around infant feeding in the setting of maternal HIV were updated significantly in 2023. The updated guidelines encourage evidence-based counseling and emphasize shared decision-making around infant feeding, supplanting a blanket recommendation for replacement feeding. This scoping review seeks to capture the shift in clinical practices and perspectives of people living with HIV and their healthcare providers since 2023. METHODS: Our review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) extension for sco

Climate-sensitive infectious diseases in transition: a scoping review of key diseases and their epidemiology, data applications and mechanism of outbreak response in Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Climate-sensitive infectious diseases (CSID), of both vector- and water-borne diseases present growing public health concerns in Saudi Arabia. By virtue of the absence of evidence-based vaccine for most of these diseases, adequate management should primeirly rely on timely and reliable data integration, robust disease surveillance, and temporal and spatial vector control strategies. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to examine the scale and scope of CSID in Saudi Arabia, with attempts to elicit all diseases' trends and patterns, the availability of associated epidemiological, e

Sarcopenia in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia has frequently been identified as a comorbid condition in numerous diseases, ultimately influencing patient outcomes. Nonetheless, within the context of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), it has received relatively insufficient clinical focus. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to estimate the prevalence of sarcopenia among individuals diagnosed with IPF and to investigate the links between sarcopenia and both pulmonary function and prognosis in this population. METHODS: Comprehensive literature searches were carried out in Excerpta Medica Databas

FIFA neuromuscular training programs on ankle injuries in football players: A meta-analysis with emphasis on evidence gaps.

BACKGROUND: Football causes over 4 million injuries each year, making injury prevention a priority. To mitigate the risks, FIFA neuromuscular programs (FIFA 11 +, FIFA 11 + Kids, and FIFA 11) are implemented to reduce injury risk. Nevertheless, their efficacy varies across populations and implementation protocols. METHODOLOGY: Databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE (2006-2025) were searched for randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies comparing FIFA programs to standard warm-ups. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane RoB 2.0 tool. Pooled relative risk (

Interventions for the detection, monitoring, and management of chronic non-communicable diseases in the prison population: an international systematic review.

BACKGROUND: High rates of health inequalities and chronic non-communicable diseases exist amongst the prison population. This places people in and/or released from prison at heightened risk of multimorbidity, premature mortality, and reduced quality of life. Ensuring appropriate healthcare for people in prison to improve their health outcomes is an important aspect of social justice. This review examines the global literature on healthcare interventions to detect, monitor and manage chronic non-communicable diseases amongst the prison population and people recently released from prison. Early Hearing Detection and Intervention programmes for neonates, infants and children in non-Asian low-income and middle-income countries: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programmes were established to reduce the impact of hearing loss on children. High-income countries (HICs) have resources and knowledge to execute these programmes. However, financial and other resource constraints limit the availability of these programmes to low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Yet, LMICs have explored strategies to implement EHDI programmes in their context; the outcomes are still largely unknown. The aim of this study is to identify the various models of the EHDI program implemented in non-Asian LMICs.

Public health system in post-pandemic Sierra Leone: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Since the outbreak of the novel SARS-CoV-2 that caused COVID-19 in 2019, the government of Sierra Leone implemented immediate preventive measures to stop the disease from entering the country. On March 24, 2020, the country declared a state of emergency in response to the emerging global COVID-19 pandemic, even though no confirmed cases had been reported at that time. However, Sierra Leone recorded its first COVID-19 case later in March 2020. While there have been few scoping reviews to date, these primarily focuses on experiences from Western countries or expatriates. The main pur

The effect of a training program on maternal role adaptation and self-esteem of mothers with preterm infants: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Admission of preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit limits the mother's interaction with their infants, delaying accepting and playing the motherhood role. Besides, mothers of preterm infants have low self-esteem due to their infants' condition. Accordingly, the present study explored the effect of implementing the training program on maternal role adaptation and self-esteem of mothers of preterm infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. METHODS: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with two groups. The participants were 80 mothers of preterm in

Factors Associated with Excessive Daytime Sleepiness in Medical Students of a Higher Education Institution of Bucaramanga.

INTRODUCTION: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) can interfere with academic and professional performance, as affected individuals tend to fall asleep in situations that demand a high level of alertness. Medical students are often a population at risk of suffering from EDS due to the demanding number of study hours, the significant number of credits per subject in the academic curriculum, practical teaching sessions and hospital night shifts, which can lead to sleep deprivation or sleep debt. It is for these reasons that it is important to estimate the prevalence of EDS and its associated fact

Enhancing mental and physical health of women through engagement and retention (EMPOWER) 3.0 QUERI: study protocol for a cluster-randomized hybrid type 3 implementation-effectiveness trial.

BACKGROUND: Women Veterans are the fastest growing segment of VA users, with most users in midlife. This dramatic growth has challenged VA to ensure that appropriate services are available to meet women Veterans' needs, and that they are willing and able to use those services. Furthermore, few VA improvement efforts have focused on women Veterans in midlife. Enhancing Mental and Physical Health of Women through Engagement and Retention (EMPOWER) 3.0 builds on prior work to optimize women Veterans' access to and quality and experience of care. It offers trauma-informed, evidence-based intervent

Nudging implementation of low tidal volume ventilation: a stepped wedge, cluster randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: "Nudges" embedded in the electronic health record (EHR) facilitate desired decisions while preserving autonomy and may provide a scalable strategy to overcome the common implementation barrier of lack of knowledge about a best practice. We sought to test whether EHR-based nudges targeting two intensive care unit (ICU) clinician groups would safely increase evidence-based use of low tidal volume ventilation. METHODS: We performed a stepped-wedge, cluster randomized, hybrid type 3 effectiveness-implementation trial in 12 ICUs from February 2021 to May 2023 to test three nudges targe

Comparative effectiveness of implementation strategies for Accelerating Cervical Cancer Elimination through the integration of Screen-and-treat Services (ACCESS study): protocol for a cluster randomized hybrid type III trial in Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Despite the increased risk of cervical cancer (CC) among women living with HIV (WLHIV), CC screening and treatment (CCST) rates remain low in Africa. The integration of CCST services into established HIV programs in Africa can improve CC prevention and control. However, the paucity of evidence on effective implementation strategies (IS) has limited the success of integration in many countries. In this study, we seek to identify effective IS to enhance the integration of CCST services into existing HIV programs in Nigeria. METHODS: Our proposed study has formative and experimental

Factors influencing implementation of a care coordination intervention for cancer survivors with multiple comorbidities in a safety-net system: an application of the Implementation Research Logic Model.

BACKGROUND: Under- and uninsured cancer survivors have significant medical, social, and economic complexity. For these survivors, effective care coordination between oncology and primary care teams is critical for high-quality, comprehensive care. While evidence-based interventions exist to improve coordination between healthcare teams, testing implementation of these interventions for cancer survivors seen in real-world safety-net settings has been limited. This study aimed to (1) identify factors influencing implementation of a multicomponent care coordination intervention (nurse coordinator
