Comparative Outcomes of Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion Vs Hybrid Surgery in Multilevel Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, hybrid surgery (HS), which combines cervical disc replacement and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in treating multilevel cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD), has emerged; however, its advantages over ACDF remain uncertain. This study aims to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of HS and to provide updated insights into its clinical application and support surgical decision-making. METHODOLOGY: This study included 20 articles that compared ACDF and HS in multilevel CDDD from January 2017 to January 2025. The following outcomes w

Clinical outcome 24 months after cervical disc arthroplasty with a new articulating and viscoelastic disc prosthesis.

BACKGROUND: Various cervical disc prosthesis and implant designs for motion preservation are routinely used in cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA). One of the newest implant designs combines features of an articulating gliding surface with those of a viscoelastic flexible core. This should allow for absorption of compressive loads in the axial direction, whereas the gliding surface at the inner surface is intended to allow a physiological range of motion with a progressive increase of resistance in six degrees of freedom (DOF). The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a ne

Comparison of the efficacy of the modified S-P approach and the Ganz method for surgical hip dislocation in Pipkin I fractures: an early follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: Femoral head fractures result from high-energy trauma and may be associated with posterior dislocation of the hip joint. An appropriate surgical approach is essential for improving clinical outcomes and preventing complications. This study aims to compare the clinical efficacy of the modified Smith-Peterson (mS-P) approach and Ganz surgical dislocation (GSD) approach in the treatment of Pipkin I fractures. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with Pipkin I fractures at Pidu District People's Hospital from June 2010 to May 2020. Of these, 11 cases we

Adipokine dysregulation as an underlying pathology for diffuse ectopic ossification of spinal posterior longitudinal ligament in patients with obesity.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Growing evidence suggests that obesity is implicated in the progression of heterotopic ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine (OPLL), a major cause of myelopathy in Asians. However, it remains unclear whether dysregulation of adipokine production due to fat accumulation contributes to OPLL progression. PURPOSE: To determine whether adipose-derived biochemical signals are associated with OPLL development or severity. STUDY DESIGN/SETTING: A nationwide, multicenter, case-control study. PATIENT SAMPLE: Patients with symptomatic thoracic OPLL (T-OPL

Cervical sagittal balance after consecutive three-level hybrid surgery versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion: radiological results from a single-center experience.

INTRODUCTION: According to the different numbers and relative locations of cervical disc replacement (CDR) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), three-level hybrid surgery (HS) has many constructs. The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the sagittal alignment parameters of HS and ACDF for cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD) and the association of the respective parameters. METHODS: This study involved patients with three-level CDDD who underwent ACDF or HS at our institution between June 2012 and August 2021. This follow-up included one-level CDR and two-le

Fix and replace: Simultaneous fracture fixation and hip replacement for acetabular fractures in older patients.

INTRODUCTION: Displaced acetabular fractures in the elderly present significant treatment challenges. The 'fix and replace' concept involves open reduction and internal fixation of the acetabulum, providing bony stability to accept the press-fit of an acetabular cup, with a cemented femoral stem. This allows early mobilisation and the advantages this confers. This study of 57 patients treated with fix and replace describes our technique, outcomes, and survival analysis. METHODS: A retrospective review of 57 'fix and replace' procedures in patients aged over 60 was performed. Data was collecte

Personalized Baghdadite scaffolds: stereolithography, mechanics and in vivo testing.

An ongoing challenge in the field of orthopedics is to produce a clinically relevant synthetic ceramic scaffold for the treatment of 'critical-sized' bone defects, which cannot heal without intervention. We had developed a bioactive ceramic (baghdadite, Ca₃ZrSi₂O₉) and demonstrated its outstanding bioactivity using traditional manufacturing techniques. Here, we report on the development of a versatile stereolithography printing technology that enabled fabrication of anatomically-shaped and -sized Baghdadite scaffolds. We assessed the in vivo bioactivity of these scaffolds in co-delivering of b

Transfer of osteochondral shell autografts to salvage femoral head impaction injuries in hip trauma patients.

INTRODUCTION: Femoral head impaction defects are observed with variable severity, as a result of traumatic hip dislocations which can be caused by traffic accidents or seen in professional athletes amongst other mechanisms. Compression of the articular cartilage and the subchondral bone into the femoral head results in irregular articular surfaces influencing the outcome with predisposition to osteoarthritis, and being predictive for the need for delayed total hip replacement. This study reports the outcome after a minimum follow-up (FU) of five years in a consecutive series treated with trans

Multilevel cervical arthroplasty-clinical and radiological outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) is a valid option for single-level cervical disc disease (CDD) as an alternative to fusion. However, the use in 3- and 4-level disc disease is under scrutiny with scarce data published so far. Our aim was to study clinical and radiological outcomes of arthroplasty in patients with multilevel CDD. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of clinical records, pre- and post-operative neutral/dynamic X-rays of patients who underwent CDA in multilevel CDD (2-4 levels). We evaluated sagittal balance parameters (C2-7 and index angle, SVA), global and segmental ran
