Deep Learning Analysis of Retinal Structures and Risk Factors of Alzheimer's Disease.

The importance of early Alzheimer's Disease screening is becoming more apparent, given the fact that there is no way to revert the patient's status after the onset. However, the diagnostic procedure of Alzheimer's Disease involves a comprehensive analysis of cognitive tests, blood sampling, and imaging, which limits the screening of a large population in a short period. Preliminary works show that rich neurological and cardiovascular information is encoded in the patient's eye. Due to the relatively fast and easy procedure acquisition, early-stage screening of Alzheimer's Disease patients with

A neural network approach to predict opioid misuse among previously hospitalized patients using electronic health records.

Can Electronic Health Records (EHR) predict opioid misuse in general patient populations? This research trained three backpropagation neural networks to explore EHR predictors using existing patient data. Model 1 used patient diagnosis codes and was 75.5% accurate. Model 2 used patient prescriptions and was 64.9% accurate. Model 3 used both patient diagnosis codes and patient prescriptions and was 74.5% accurate. This suggests patient diagnosis codes are best able to predict opioid misuse. Opioid misusers have higher rates of drug abuse/mental health disorders than the general population, whic

Nano fuzzy alarming system for blood transfusion requirement detection in cancer using deep learning.

Periodic blood transfusion is a need in cancer patients in which the disease process as well as the chemotherapy can disrupt the natural production of blood cells. However, there are concerns about blood transfusion side effects, the cost, and the availability of donated blood. Therefore, predicting the timely requirement for blood transfusion considering patient variability is a need, and here for the first-time deal with this issue in blood cancer using in vivo data. First, a data set of 98 samples of blood cancer patients including 61 features of demographic, clinical, and laboratory data a

DeepMineLys: Deep mining of phage lysins from human microbiome.

Vast shotgun metagenomics data remain an underutilized resource for novel enzymes. Artificial intelligence (AI) has increasingly been applied to protein mining, but its conventional performance evaluation is interpolative in nature, and these trained models often struggle to extrapolate effectively when challenged with unknown data. In this study, we present a framework (DeepMineLys [deep mining of phage lysins from human microbiome]) based on the convolutional neural network (CNN) to identify phage lysins from three human microbiome datasets. When validated with an independent dataset, our me

Recurrent neural network for predicting absence of heterozygosity from low pass WGS with ultra-low depth.

BACKGROUND: The absence of heterozygosity (AOH) is a kind of genomic change characterized by a long contiguous region of homozygous alleles in a chromosome, which may cause human genetic disorders. However, no method of low-pass whole genome sequencing (LP-WGS) has been reported for the detection of AOH in a low-pass setting of less than onefold. We developed a method, termed CNVseq-AOH, for predicting the absence of heterozygosity using LP-WGS with ultra-low sequencing data, which overcomes the sparse nature of typical LP-WGS data by combing population-based haplotype information, adjustable

NecroGlobalGCN: Integrating micronecrosis information in HCC prognosis prediction via graph convolutional neural networks.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks fourth in cancer mortality, underscoring the importance of accurate prognostic predictions to improve postoperative survival rates in patients. Although micronecrosis has been shown to have high prognostic value in HCC, its application in clinical prognosis prediction requires specialized knowledge and complex calculations, which poses challenges for clinicians. It would be of interest to develop a model to help clinicians make full use of micronecrosis to assess patient survival. METHODS: To address these challenges, we propose a

Establishment of a Mathematical Model for Parkinson's Disease Based on Complex Neural Networks and Design of Deep Brain Electrical Stimulation Treatment Plans.

This article introduces the modeling idea of complex neural networks based on the analysis of Parkinson's disease(PD) seizures. According to the Hodgkin-Huxley model of neurons and the synaptic connection theory between neurons, a theoretical model of the basal ganglia circuit was established. To reveal the working mechanism of the brain during the attack of nervous system disease. On this basis, the neural system model is combined with the control theory. Finally, an intermittent adaptive feedback controller is proposed to effectively suppress the onset of Parkinson's disease by stimulating t

Automated Medical Diagnosis of Alzheimer´s Disease Using an Efficient Net Convolutional Neural Network.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses an enormous challenge to modern healthcare. Since 2017, researchers have been using deep learning (DL) models for the early detection of AD using neuroimaging biomarkers. In this paper, we implement the EfficietNet-b0 convolutional neural network (CNN) with a novel approach-"fusion of end-to-end and transfer learning"-to classify different stages of AD. 245 T1W MRI scans of cognitively normal (CN) subjects, 229 scans of AD subjects, and 229 scans of subjects with stable mild cognitive impairment (sMCI) were employed. Each scan was preprocessed using a standard pi

Deep Multi-Branch CNN Architecture for Early Alzheimer's Detection from Brain MRIs.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that can cause dementia and result in a severe reduction in brain function, inhibiting simple tasks, especially if no preventative care is taken. Over 1 in 9 Americans suffer from AD-induced dementia, and unpaid care for people with AD-related dementia is valued at USD 271.6 billion. Hence, various approaches have been developed for early AD diagnosis to prevent its further progression. In this paper, we first review other approaches that could be used for the early detection of AD. We then give an overview of our dataset and propose a de

Accurate Prediction of Sudden Cardiac Death Based on Heart Rate Variability Analysis Using Convolutional Neural Network.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a significant global health issue that affects individuals with and without a history of heart disease. Early identification of SCD risk factors is crucial in reducing mortality rates. This study aims to utilize electrocardiogram (ECG) tools, specifically focusing on heart rate variability (HRV), to detect early SCD risk factors. In this study, we expand the comparison group dataset to include five groups: Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR), coronary artery disease (CAD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Ventricular Tachycardia (VT), and SCD. ECG signals were recorded for 3

Constructing a pollen proxy from low-cost Optical Particle Counter (OPC) data processed with Neural Networks and Random Forests.

Pollen allergies affect a significant proportion of the global population, and this is expected to worsen in years to come. There is demand for the development of automated pollen monitoring systems. Low-cost Optical Particle Counters (OPCs) measure particulate matter and have attractive advantages of real-time high time resolution data and affordable costs. This study asks whether low-cost OPC sensors can be used for meaningful monitoring of airborne pollen. We employ a variety of methods, including supervised machine learning techniques, to construct pollen proxies from hourly-average OPC da

NOx emissions prediction in diesel engines: a deep neural network approach.

The reduction of various nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines is an important environmental issue due to their negative impact on air quality and public health. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) has emerged as an effective technology to mitigate NOx emissions, but predicting the performance of SCR systems remains a challenge due to the complex chemistry involved. In this study, we propose using DNN models to predict NOx emission reductions in SCR systems. Four types of datasets were created; each consisted of five variables as inputs. We evaluated the models using experimental
