IMPORTANCE: Acute traumatic spinal cord injury results in disability and use of health care resources, yet data on contemporary national trends of traumatic spinal cord injury incidence and etiology are limited.
OBJECTIVE: To assess trends in acute traumatic spinal cord injury incidence, etiology, mortality, and associated surgical procedures in the United States from 1993 to 2012.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Analysis of survey data from the US Nationwide Inpatient Sample databases for 1993-2012, including a total of 63,109 patients with acute traumatic spinal cord injury.

Motor vehicle and falling down are responsible for the most number of traumatic injuries. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of traumatic brain injury among accident and falling down cases. In this analytical cross-sectional study, data were collected from the records of cadavers who died due to accident or falling down and referred to Kahrizak dissection hall, Tehran forensic medicine organization during 2013. Motor scooter handlebar syndrome (MSH) is uncommon. MSH includes groin pain associated with intimal injury to the common femoral artery caused by a direct blow from objects such as a motor scooter handlebar. We describe a case of a 23-year-old man with MSH occurring after a bicycle fall. The diagnosis was performed 5 years after the onset of pain. The patient underwent endovascular surgery and made a rapid recovery. Postoperatively, he was free of symptoms. This case highlights the difficulty of recognising this syndrome.

A 39-year-old man presented after falling on a radio antenna while in his yard. Computed tomography revealed that the antenna entered the right superolateral orbit, penetrating through the right orbital roof and extending into the right frontal lobe. A Stallard orbitotomy was performed to remove the antenna resulting in blepharoptosis.

We present the case of a 61-year-old woman with a subacute elbow dislocation, who was referred to our institution 4 weeks after a fall. She was treated with open reduction and temporary bridging internal fixation through a posterior approach with a limited contact dynamic compression plate. After 4 weeks, the hardware was removed. One year postoperatively, the patient had nearly pain-free motion of 20° short of full extension and full flexion. Her radiographs showed residual incongruity and degenerative arthritis of the elbow.

A retrospective review of surgically treated lower-extremity long-bone fractures in wheelchair-bound patients was conducted. Between October 2000 and July 2009, eleven lower-extremity fractures in 9 wheelchair-bound patients underwent surgical fixation. The Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment, Short Form, and Spinal Cord Injury Quality of Life questionnaires were used to assess functional outcome. Compartment syndromes of the upper arm are rare clinical entities but can be a serious problem, especially in unconscious patients or those presenting with altered mental status. OBJECTIVES: To study whether balance, function, and other health status indicators can predict serious fall related injury in elderly women living at home.
METHODS: In this prospective study, the authors took a random sample of 307 women aged 75 years and over (mean 80.8 years, response rate 74.5%), living in the community.
