51 patients with liver alveococcosis were operated on: radical operations with the whole hydatid tumor removal, cytoreductive operations with 50-80% of the tumor removal and alveococcal nodes' preserving on vital organs; and palliative manipulations, aimed the relief of complications were performed. According to the treatment results, the radical liver resection proved to be the most effective. When the complete tumor removal is impossible, cytoreductive operations are possible. Combination with antiparasitic therapy is required.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the impact of age at Kasai operation on the short-term outcome of type III biliary atresia (BA) and to discuss if pathological scoring can be the prediction of effect in the Kasai procedure for the older (≥ 90 days) infant.

BACKGROUND: Management of patients with total intestinal aganglionosis (TIA) is a medical challenge because of their dependency on parenteral nutrition (PN). Intestinal transplantation (ITx) represents the only alternative treatment for patients with irreversible intestinal failure for achieving intestinal autonomy.
METHODS: Among 66 patients who underwent ITx in our center, 12 had TIA. They received either isolated ITx (n = 4) or liver-ITx (LITx, n = 8) after 10 to 144 months of total PN. All grafts included the right colon.

We report about a seventy year old patient with painless jaundice, loss of weight and signs of laboratory-confirmed cholestasis. A CT-Scan revealed a tumor mass in the pancreatic head with extensive liver metastasis. We illustrate the required diagnostic steps to assess cholestasis and painless icterus. A definite diagnosis can not always be made even with extensive histological or immunohistochemical workup.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy is typically performed for patients with biliary and duodenal stenosis due to chronic pancreatitis. BACKGROUND: When managing neonatal jaundice, despite continual improvement of diagnostic tests and increasing knowledge regarding its pathogenesis, there is no single test or imaging modality that can reliably define biliary atresia. Early diagnosis is essential for a better surgical outcome. In many situations, mini-laparotomy and operative cholangiography may be needed to settle the definitive diagnosis, with the risk of having negative exploration in those high-risk patients with medical etiology.
