The B(C6F5)3-catalyzed chemoselective hydrosilylation of α,β- and α,β,γ,δ-unsaturated ketones into the corresponding non-symmetric ketones in mild reaction conditions is developed. Nearly 55 substrates including those bearing reducible functional groups such as alkynyl, alkenyl, cyano, and aromatic heterocycles are chemoselectively hydrosilylated in good to excellent yields. Isotope-labeling studies revealed that hexafluoro-2-propanol also served as a hydrogen source in the process.

A beta-blocking agent, the 1,ter-butylamine3-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,4-ethano-8-hydroxy-5-naphthoxy)-2-propanol (K5407) was synthesized with 14C and 3H and its pharmacokinetics in the dog and man were investigated after i.v. and oral administration. K5407 was rapidly absorbed after oral dosing and plasma peaks were within 1 hour. Concentrations of unchanged compound were found to be very small. The cobD gene of Salmonella typhimurium LT2 has been cloned, sequenced, and overexpressed. The overexpressed protein had a molecular mass of approximately 40 kDa, in agreement with the mass predicted by the deduced amino acid sequence (40.8 kDa). Computer analysis of the deduced amino acid sequence of CobD identified a consensus pyridoxal phosphate-binding motif. The complexation of Cm(III) and Eu(III) with 4-t-butyl-6,6'-bis-(5,6-diethyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine (t-Bu-C2-BTBP) in water/2-propanol solution is studied. With increasing ligand concentration, 1 : 2 complexes [M(t-Bu-C2-BTBP)(2)(H(2)O)](3+) form from the solvated metal ions. The stability constants are log K(Cm(III)) = 11.1 and log K(Eu(III)) = 9.0. For both Cm(III) and Eu(III), the complexation reaction is both enthalpy and entropy driven. The effect of the beta-receptor blocking drug Tobanum was examined in 10 patients with idiopathic hyperkinetic heart syndrome. The circulation (arm-to-ear) time was determined by indicator-dilution method following methylene blue injection.
