N-Methyl-3-acylpyrroles were synthesized via a multicomponent reaction of dimethylacetylene dicarboxylate (DMAD), N-methylhydroxylamine and acylchlorides in the presence of KHCO(3). For comparison both conventional and microwave protocols were examined in this procedure. The reaction is clean and gives the products in good to excellent yields under conventional heating conditions at 40 degrees C in anhydrous dichloromethane.

We describe an unusually severe case of medium chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency in a term female neonate, who presented at 12 h of age with lethargy, poor feeding, hypoglycemia and ventricular tachyarrhythmias. OBJECTIVES: Ghrelin is mainly produced by the endocrine cells of the gastric oxyntic mucosa. For this reason we decided to investigate the modification of the circulating levels not only of total but also of acylated ghrelin in a series of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis.
DESIGN: Twenty-five patients with chronic atrophic gastritis and 25 healthy subjects were studied. In all 50 subjects gastrin and total and acylated ghrelin levels were evaluated. All patients underwent endoscopy with multiple biopsies, and the possibility of Helicobacter pylori infection was investigated.

We report an extensively modified method for the extraction, solid-phase purification, and HPLC analysis of long-chain acyl-CoAs from tissues. Tissue samples were homogenized in a glass homogenizer in KH2PO4 buffer (100 mM, pH 4.9) and again after the addition of 2-propanol. PURPOSE: The purpose of this investigation was to compare the antitumor activities of a series of acyl derivatives of 4-demethylpenclomedine (DM-PEN), the major plasma metabolite of penclomedine (PEN) observed to be an active antitumor agent in vivo and non-neurotoxic in a rat model with that of DM-PEN.
METHODS: Acyl derivatives were prepared from DM-PEN and evaluated in vivo against human MX-1 breast tumor xenografts implanted subcutaneously (s.c.) or intracerebrally (i.c.). Several derivatives were also evaluated against other human tumor xenografts and murine P388 leukemia cell lines.

We have cloned the cDNA encoding human peroxisomal acyl-CoA oxidase, the first enzyme in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation of very long chain fatty acids. Its nucleotide sequence was found to be highly homologous (85%) to the rat cDNA counterpart.
