Aggressive osteomyelitis of the jaw presents with a destructive pattern, including bone necrosis, pain, and swelling, which can sometimes make it difficult to differentiate from malignancy. This article reports a case of a 47-year-old female patient diagnosed with aggressive osteomyelitis that was initially confused with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). ACC is a rare salivary gland tumor that grows slowly but can involve perineural invasion and distant metastasis. In this patient, the clinically reported pain and radiologic findings suggested perineural invasion and skip metastasis, leading to

Nerves are integral to the adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) microenvironment. The strong association of ACC with perineural invasion (PNI) is considered a hallmark of this disease. In human salivary ACC, we identify intratumoral, small-caliber, disorganized sympathetic nerves not observed in other salivary neoplasms. Norepinephrine or sympathetic ganglia explants enhance ACC proliferation in vitro. Two novel orthotopic ACC patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models recapitulate ACC morphology and demonstrate sympathetic innervation. Pharmacologic or surgical blockade of sympathetic nerves decreases

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: This case report highlights the rarity of distal tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma and emphasizes the importance of considering it as a differential diagnosis in patients presenting with sustained dyspnea. Early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach involving thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists are crucial for optimal treatment planning and patient outcomes. Further research is warranted to better understand the pathogenesis, molecular characteristics, and optimal management strategies for this rare tracheal malignancy.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid basal cell carcinoma is a rare cervical malignancy which is indolent in nature but resembles more commonly occurring aggressive malignancies.
CASES: Here we describe three cases of cervical adenoid basal cell carcinoma. All patients had a history of cervical dysplasia with high-risk HPV. The first and second patient were treated with hysterectomy, and the third patient opted for surveillance after cold knife conization. All patients have no evidence of disease to date.
CONCLUSION: Cervical adenoid basal cell carcinoma is a rare malignancy that requires careful diagnosti

INTRODUCTION: Hypertrophy of adenoids is a common condition in childhood, resulting in obstructive symptoms such as sleep apnea, snoring, and rhinosinusitis. Adenotonsillectomy is recommended to improve prognosis and quality of life. This case-control study compared facial angles and lip position related to dentofacial and mouth growth in symptomatic children with adenoid hypertrophy and asymptomatic control groups.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included children aged 5 to 7 who presented with obstructive symptoms and confirmed severe adenoid hypertrophy in lateral neck radiography. Standa…

Adenoid cystic carcinoma usually occurs in the salivary glands of the head and neck. It is a malignant tumor with a high degree of malignancy, resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy and poor prognosis. The clinical course of adenoid cystic carcinoma is slow and easy to be misdiagnosed. The main diagnosis and treatment means are individualized and precise treatment under the multi-disciplinary consultation mode, that is, surgical treatment and radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Adenoid cystic carcinoma is prone to relapse and hematologic metastasis, and the traditional radiotherapy and chemoth

BACKGROUND: Adenoid ameloblastoma with dentinoid (AAD) is a hybrid odontogenic tumor comprising histopathological presentation of ameloblastoma (AM) and adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) along with extracellular dentinoid material.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old female reported an asymptomatic swelling in the left mandibular posterior region. Histopathological examination revealed composite features of AM with AOT along with dentinoid material, which stained positively with Van Gieson and trichrome stains.
CONCLUSION: The present case report serves to add further to the modicum of litera

Primary tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma (TACC) occurring in the cervical trachea and invading the thyroid is very rare. Surgical resection and airway reconstruction are the main treatment methods, and other treatments include radiotherapy and endoscopic intervention. Herein, we present the case of a 74-year-old female patient with TACC. The patient underwent surgery and postoperative pathology showed that the tumor invaded the adventitia of the trachea and bilateral thyroid, where nerve involvement was observed. The patient recovered well after the operation without adjuvant therapy. Eight m

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of adenoid hypertrophy on malocclusion and maxillofacial development in children.
METHODS: Total of 102 children with malocclusion or maxillofacial dysplasia admitted to our hospital from March 2017 to June 2020 were selected as the research subjects. All children were divided into a control group (50 cases with adenoid hypertrophy) and an observation group (52 cases without adenoid hypertrophy) according to the presence or absence of adenoid hypertrophy. The incidence of malocclusion was compared between the two groups, and lateral cranial radiographs wer

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant tumor derived mainly from the salivary glands, representing approximately 1% of all headandneck carcinomasand 10% of all salivary gland neoplasms. ACC displays a paradoxical behavioral combination of an indolent growth pattern but an aggressive progression, with local recurrence and distant metastasis. The propensity of ACC of the head and neck (ACCHN) for perineural invasion and its anatomical location, especially if it extends to the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, facilitates tumor involvement in the surrounding structures, such as the

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon malignancy occurring most frequently in the salivary glands. Breast ACC is rare. Pain is common at the site of ACC; otherwise, presentation is similar to other primary breast cancers. Adenoid cystic carcinomas classically lack calcifications; the imaging manifestations of ACC are otherwise highly variable, likely related to multiple pathologic growth patterns. While ACC in other regions of the body tends to be more aggressive, ACC involving the breast typically has less aggressive biologic characteristics. Classic-type breast ACC has a lower tenden

BACKGROUND: A recent systematic review published in Head and Neck Pathology found that 3.8% of dentinogenic ghost cell tumors harbor duct-like/ cribriform architecture. Herein we discuss this finding regarding the differential diagnosis of this tumor with adenoid ameloblastoma.
METHODS: A critical review of some microscopic findings reported in a recent paper published in the Head and Neck Pathology Journal was done.
RESULTS: Although there are overlapping microscopic features with dentinogenic ghost cell tumor, adenoid ameloblastoma is distinguished by the combination of duct-like structure

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid (acantholytic) squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) is a histological variant of squamous cell carcinoma which occurs mainly in the sun-exposed areas of the head and neck region. It is commonly seen among males which mainly occurs in the sixth and seventh decade of life with lip being predominately affected. Limited scientific literature is documenting the intraoral presentation of ASCC in contrast to its usual extraoral lesions associated with the skin. Characteristic pseudo glandular alveolar space formation seen in ASCC often mimics carcinoma of salivary gland origin. In-dep

BACKGROUND: In recent years, annual incidences of adenoid hypertrophy (AH), a highly common tissue lesion in children, have increased. Currently, research on AH has focused on its obstruction of nasal cavity function, and little has been written on its influence on the upper airway's bone structure. For this reason, our present study seeks to determine the influence of AH on both the morphological development characteristics of the upper airway and the craniofacial features in children, with the goal being to offer more choices for diagnosing and treating the condition in the future.

A 39-year-old woman was referred to the neurology department due to headache, instability and difficulty walking for 5 months. Several ancillary tests were performed. The blood test showed leucocytosis and the cerebrospinal fluid revealed an increased total protein and glucose consumption. Other infections or autoimmune causes were excluded. The MRI showed non-specific brain and spinal cord lesions. Given the findings described, a differential diagnosis between granulomatous meningoencephalitis and primary tumour or metastasis was proposed. Empirical treatment with tuberculostatic agents and c

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Generally, the blockage of upper respiratory tract in children is seen with the hypertrophy of adenoids and tonsils. Normally for patients with adenoid hypertrophy (AH), Adenoidectomy with or without Tonsillectomy is carried out, however it has its own complications like haemorrhage and recurrence of adenoid tissue. Consequently, therapeutic approach has increased extraordinary consideration rather than surgical procedure. The inflammatory process proposed for AH has prompted the utilization of anti-inflammatory drugs to treat this issue. The objective of this study wa…

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is the most common type of malignancy seen in the lacrimal glands and is generally characterized by invasive malignant appearance with irregular margins and associated bone erosion or destruction. The authors report an unusual patient with a large expansile, well-circumscribed lacrimal adenoid cystic carcinoma with adjacent bone remodeling, radiologically mimicking a benign lesion.
