A Highly Efficient Propeller-Like Organic Radical with Less Solvent Sensitivity and Selective Detection of Aromatic Amines from Aliphatic Amines through Turn-on Fluorescence.

Highly efficient red luminescent organic radicals with less solvent sensitivity are much more attractive due to their wide application in various fields, especially in fluorescence sensing, and bioimaging. In this work, we synthesized a three δ-carboline-capped highly efficient propeller-like organic radical TTM-3δPyID with a D-A structure. The radical showed pure red emission with PLQY of 77.3 % in cyclohexane and kept 35.2 % even in the polar solvent dichloromethane, indicating potential applications in fluorescence sensing. Radical TTM-3δPyID also showed stepwise proton-responsive propertie

Diastereoselective Heterogeneous Hydrogenation of Fused Arenes Directed by Amines and Alcohols.

The heterogeneous hydrogenation of aromatic compounds using supported metal catalysts is an efficient strategy to increase the three-dimensionality and molecular complexity of organic molecules. However, most heterogeneous hydrogenation methods lack stereoselectivity or rely upon the steric properties of the substrate for stereocontrol, which limit their predictability and generality for pharmaceutical synthesis applications. In this work, we develop two synthetic methods for the amine- and hydroxyl-directed hydrogenation of benzofused arenes using Rh/C and Pt3Cu/SiO2 as heterogeneous catalyst

β-CF3 Alkynones for Amine Conjugation under Aqueous Conditions.

We report an aqueous conjugate addition of primary and secondary amines to β-CF3 alkynones under mild conditions without added metal catalysts or activating reagents. This protocol affords stable, CF3-containing enaminone conjugates in phosphate buffer and is applicable to structurally diverse amine substrates. Its utility is demonstrated by the modification of drugs, amino acid esters, dipeptides, complex bioactive peptides, and proteins, as well as two-step fluorescent labeling of lysozyme confirmed by fluorescence SDS-PAGE analysis.

Emergent integration of the amine scrubbing method into photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

Developing strategies for photocatalytic reduction of low-concentration CO2 under ambient conditions is essential for mitigating global warming and addressing energy and carbon resource shortages. The amine scrubbing method (ASM), which captures dilute CO2 as carbamic acid using low-cost primary and secondary amines, is widely employed to generate concentrated CO2. However, releasing CO2 from carbamic acid to generate highly concentrated CO2 requires high-temperature heating, resulting in substantial energy consumption and cost. Herein, we report the integration of ASM with photocatalytic CO2

Thermodynamic Study of Amine-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents with H2O.

The densities and viscosities of ([C n mimCl]-[MEA] + H2O) systems (n = 2, 4, 6) were measured over 288.15-323.15 K, and the enthalpies of mixing were determined at 298.15 and 308.15 K. Density data showed nonmonotonic composition dependence with extrema near x DES ≈ 0.4-0.5, and negative excess molar volumes indicated enhanced molecular packing. Viscosity increased sharply at low DES content and more gradually toward pure DESs, exhibiting S-shape deviation profiles that reflect structural rearrangements in both DES-rich and H2O-rich regions. Negative enthalpies of mixing confirmed exothermic

Amine-Enabled Electron Donor-Acceptor Complex Catalysis for Cyclopropanation.

Electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complexes have emerged as a powerful catalyst-free platform for visible-light-driven radical transformations. Herein, we report an amine-enabled EDA-mediated cyclopropanation of alkenes formed through a ground-state charge-transfer complex between diiodomethane and amine. The method proceeds under mild conditions and exhibits broad functional-group tolerance. The comprehensive mechanistic investigations, including EPR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis analysis, quantum yield determination, and DFT studies, support an EDA-mediated radical pathway.

Flavin-Decorated Proteins and Bacteria Enable Photoenzymatic Amine Valorisation.

The search for more sustainable catalytic methods, such as biocatalysis and photocatalysis, has greatly contributed to a sustainable future of synthetic chemistry. Within photocatalysis, flavin-type heterocycles are powerful tools for oxidative transformations but often suffer from poor water solubility, photostability, and limited reusability. Here, we provide a proof-of-concept strategy to bridge the gap between photocatalysis and biocatalysis through the development of artificial flavin biomolecules. A 7-/8-carboxyflavin derivative was synthesized and covalently attached to protein surfaces

Solvent- and metal-gated coordination diversity in a dynamic aminal ligand.

Within the broad landscape of dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC), the coordination chemistry of primary-amine-based aminals has received comparatively little systematic investigation. Here we demonstrate that a primary-amine-based dynamic covalent aminal (LA2) can serve as an adaptive scaffold for coordination chemistry diversity, where solvent and metal ion choice govern distinct outcomes. Coordination stabilizes otherwise transient ligand forms and directs divergent pathways: Co(III) stabilizes hemiaminalates in methanol, with [Co(LO2)2](ClO4) exhibiting fluxional behavior, and templates macro

Biogenic Amines as Biomarkers for the Assessment of Diesel-Contaminated Water Toxicity.

This study evaluated the phytotoxicity of diesel oil (DO) using the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and the aquatic plant Lemna m … e, cadaverine, agmatine, spermidine, and spermine. Agmatine emerged as a common indicator of DO contamination in both species. Its content decreased in P. subcapitata (EC50 = 0.85%) but increased in L. minor (EC50 = 0.38%) under diesel exposure. The findings herein suggest that BA profiling, especially agmatine, can support early detection of hydrocarbon st …

Occurrence and control of biogenic amines in plant-based fermented foods.

Biogenic amines (BAs) are microbial-derived compounds that may exert adverse effects in humans when present at high concentrations. They are mainly formed by amino acid decarboxylation and can be produced by various microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria, enterobacteria, staphylococci and Bacillus spp. While high BA levels in non-fermented foods indicate spoilage, their presence in fermented foods is often unavoidable, making process control essential to limit their accumulation. Plant-based fermented foods are gaining global interest, but their production frequently relies on spontane

Unified Synthesis of Unconventional α-Polyhalogenated Amines Through Hydroaminoalkylation.

We report a unified method for the synthesis of α-polyhalomethyl amines from alkenes and alkynes, enabled by readily available hemiaminal reagents. This operationally simple transformation allows for the introduction of not only well-established CF3 and CF2H groups, but also the synthetically (and medicinally) underexplored CF2Cl and CFClH motifs-thereby broadening access to previously inaccessible chemical space of halogenated amine scaffolds. The method displays broad substrate scope and functional-group tolerance while operating under mild conditions. Late-stage functionalization of drug-li

Impact of drugs and environmental contaminants on amine production by gut bacteria.

Xenobiotics like drugs are recognised as key influencers of gut bacterial growth. Yet, their impact on the production of metabolites involved in microbiota-host interactions is largely unknown. Here, we report the impact of commonly ingested xenobiotics-therapeutic drugs, pesticides, industrial chemicals, and sweeteners-on gut bacterial amine metabolism. We tested >13,000 interactions between >1700 compounds and 4 amine-producing bacteria, uncovering 747 xenobiotic-species-metabolite interactions involving 275 compounds. These compounds span all tested classes, with the majority being antimicr

Flow-Enabled, Modular Access to α,α-Difluoromethylene Amines.

The α,α-difluoromethylene amine (NCF2R) motif represents a useful functionality in medicinal chemistry, yet practical and modular methods to access this class of compounds are lacking. Here, we report a safe and scalable flow-based strategy for the on-demand generation of NCF2R anions using a packed-bed microreactor containing caesium fluoride. This protocol enables the late-stage installation of the CF2 group under mild conditions, avoiding the use of hazardous fluorinating agents and minimizing fluorinated waste. This fully modular strategy features three points of diversification (carboxyli

Mechanistic insights into the oxidative degradation of amine-containing CO2 adsorbents.

One of the most challenging issues for large-scale implementation of amine-containing adsorbents for CO2 capture, is their propensity to oxidative degradation via radical mechanisms. The nature of the early (primary) oxidation species depends on whether the deactivation took place under humid or dry, aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The current theoretical investigation provides new insights into the reaction mechanisms for such degradation products, specifically imine, aldehyde and CO2, depending on the radical species involved, and the deactivation conditions. A common radical to all reactio

Development of a Bitterness Sensor Using Partially Dissociated Amine Compounds.

This study focused on developing an advanced bitterness sensor designed to minimize interference from common anions such as nitrate (NO3-) and iodide (I-) by incorporating partially dissociated amine compounds into the sensor membrane. The conventional bitter sensor (C00) uses fully dissociated quaternary ammonium salt tetradecyl ammonium bromide (TDAB), which typically exhibits high responses to these anions, leading to inaccurate bitterness assessments. To address this issue, we explored the use of three partially dissociated amines-oleylamine (OAm), dioctadecylamine (DODA), and tridodecylam

A review of biogenic amines in fermented foods: Occurrence and health effects.

Biogenic amines (BAs) are low-molecular decarboxylation products of amino acids formed during microbial fermentation. Several fermented foods may contain BAs such as histamine, tyramine, and/or phenylethylamine, at levels above documented toxic doses. Dietary exposure to foods containing high levels of BAs is associated with many adverse health effects, such as migraines, elevated blood pressure, and tachycardia. BA-mediated toxicity may occur at levels a hundred times below regulatory and suggested toxic doses, depending on an individual's sensitivity and factors such as alcohol consumption a
