Imported infectious diseases in the Departments for Epidemic Diseases in Blegdams Hospital and the University Hospital, Copenhagen, are reviewed for the period 1975-1986. A total of 3,454 cases were diagnosed. 92% were due to parasitic infections. 20.2% of the diagnoses were made i Danes. 38% of these had malaria. To evaluate the role of canine hookworms in human eosinophilic enteritis (EE) in north-eastern Australia, we tested human sera in an enzyme- … parasitological grounds. The IgM-ELISA was neither specific nor sensitive. We conclude that canine ancylostomiasis is a major cause of human EE in north-eastern Australia, and the pathogenesis is based probably on hypersensitivity to antigens secreted by the parasite.

A case of persistent folliculitis in a 21-year-old man was demonstrated to be due to Ancylostoma caninum larvae. Treatment with oral thiabendazole was curative. Cutaneous larva migrans may be due to A caninum, but this presentation appears to be unique. The literature concerning etiology and pathogenesis of larva migrans is discussed with reference to this case.
