The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients with intractable lateral malleolar bursitis who were treated using the intraoperative saline load test to find communication between the bursal sac and the ankle joint and the quilting sutures after bursectomy to reduce the dead space. This article presents a simple technique for fascia lata lengthening that is less aggressive, can be performed under local anaesthetic with little morbidity and disability, and has excellent results. BACKGROUND: Trochanteric bursitis or greater trochanter pain syndrome (GTPS) is a frequent cause of lateral hip pain. This article reports our experience with a new method of Z-lengthening of the iliotibial band for refractory GTPS.
METHODS: Fifteen patients (17 hips) were diagnosed with GTPS unresponsive to conservative treatment including steroid injection. Fourteen patients were women. The average age was 60 years and average duration of symptoms was 4.7 years.

Three topics are reviewed: iliopsoas bursitis (IPB), iliotibial band frictional syndrome (ITBFS), and Achilles tendinopathy. Although not frequently diagnosed, IPB may be more prevalent than what is commonly thought. Several excellent review articles are presented. Imaging studies are usually needed for confirmation of the diagnosis, and a report on magnetic resonance imaging is presented. Successful treatment of IPB with home exercise is reviewed. The authors describe a 48-year-old woman suffering from bilateral upper-extremity numbness and axial radiating pain. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed soft-tissue edema and enhancement surrounding the dorsal tip of the C7 spinous process. We examined the efficacy of corticosteroid injection as treatment for postarthroplasty trochanteric bursitis and the risk factors for failure of nonoperative treatment. There were 32 (4.6%) cases of postsurgical trochanteric bursitis in 689 primary total hip arthroplasties. Of the 25 hips with follow-up, 11 (45%) required multiple injections. Multiple rice body formation is a complication of chronic bursitis. Although it resembles synovial chondromatosis clinically and on imaging, the literature suggests that analysis of radiographic and MR appearances should allow discrimination. We report the imaging findings in a 41-year-old man presenting with rice body formation in chronic subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis. We found that the signal intensity of the rice bodies is helpful in making the diagnosis.

In this review, four areas are discussed: fluoroquinolone-induced tendinitis, volar flexor tenosynovitis (trigger finger), Achilles tendon lesions, and occupational medicine issues. The relationship of fluoroquinolone treatment to musculoskeletal lesions, especially Achilles tendinitis and tear, is most intriguing. The steady increase in reports of the association cannot be ignored. Although Achilles tendinitis and rupture have comprised the most frequently seen lesions, articles on additional sites of involvement, such as in lateral epicondylitis and De Quervain's tenosynovitis, are reviewed.
