BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) offers the best means of studying small bowel, but is expensive. We investigated how physicians appraise the value of VCE.
METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to remitting physicians comprising questions on the value of VCE in altogether 189 adults. The follow-up time was at least one year. The patient history was also scrutinized in case records.
RESULTS: The most common indications for VCE were anaemia (n=100) or gastrointestinal bleeding (n=21) (60%), suspicion of Crohn's disease (21%), abdominal pain (9%) and coeliac disease (6%). The diag

Small bowel imaging has been revolutionized by CT enterography and capsule endoscopy. We present an overview of both imaging modalities, discuss advantages and disadvantages of each, and compare findings in Crohn's disease, occult gastrointestinal bleeding, and small bowel tumors. Both methods complement each other often providing information that the other one cannot.

The lens epithelial cells of A and E type are involved in pathogenesis of posterior capsule opacification (PCO). They undergo metaplasia into microfibroblasts, then migrate towards posterior capsule where they proliferate and form opacification. These processes are stimulated by cytokines and interleukines. The extracellular matrix which constitutes a scaffold for migration and attachment of epithelial cells plays an important role in PCO formation. Integrines intercede in this process.

Capsule endoscopy (CE) is a safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool to evaluate small bowel lesions. CE, like conventional endoscopy, can detect focal and small-ulcerated lesions along the entire length of the small bowel, which are not identified by other imaging techniques. Meta-analysis has shown that CE is better than any other radiological technique to detect small bowel lesions in patients with suspected or known Crohn's disease (CD). Since its introduction in 2001, Wireless Video Capsule enteroscopy is gaining acceptance due to its high diagnostic potential and minimal risk. In some centers, it offers an alternative approach to visualize the small intestine and to evaluate patients with suspected small bowel disease. We present a series of known complications of this procedure and call for a more proactive role in the management of retained capsule.

Trichinella spiralis larvae were examined in TEM to identify calcareous corpuscles in the outer part of parasite capsule. The microroentgenographic analysis of calcareous corpuscles mainly demonstrated the presence of phosphorus and calcium. Wireless endoscopy is a new noninvasive diagnostic method that is able to visualize small bowel lesions. The instrument is small and carries a battery and microcamera that takes two photographs per second. OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy of capsular distension in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder joint.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Musculoskeletal clinic.
PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-two patients (18 women, 4 men; mean age, 41.3y; range, 29-54y) with adhesive capsulitis of shoulder joint. Nineteen patients had Hannafin stage II and 3 patients had Hannafin stage III adhesive capsulitis. All patients had continuous pain and significant range of motion (ROM) limitations of the shoulder joint despite a minimum of 3 months of physical therapy (PT).

Capsulotomy in primary Salter's osteotomy shaped by T or + and is difficult to tighten joint capsule. A new technique or L-shaped incision i.e., a L-shaped incision on the right hip and a reversed L-shaped incision on the left is designed to incise and sew the capsule. This technique can make the acetabulum fully exposed, and the capsule can be conveniently tightened with overlapping sutures. When it is combined with modified external fixation, redislocation after operation can be avoided.
