A colonoscopy and colonoscopic polypectomy service was established at Wellington Hospital, New Zealand in April 1975. Between April 1975 and March 1990 1157 polyps were either removed or biopsied and examined histologically. Twenty-five polyps were lost. Patient-age seemed to increase through the spectrum hyperplastic, tubular, tubulovillous, villous, and polypoid carcinoma. Sessile < 6 mm in diameter hyperplastic polyps were more numerous than small adenomatous polyps. A case of synchronous primary adenocarcinomas of the small and large bowel in a patient previously treated by transverse colectomy for cancerous polyps is presented. These new primaries were incidental findings during surgery for suspected recurrence of colonic carcinoma. Primary tumors of the small bowel are rare, and the diagnosis of primary adenocarcinoma of small bowel in the presence of primary adenocarcinoma of large bowel requires a high degree of suspicion and may well modify the prognostic outcome if detected early.

We report the case of a patient with lower gastrointestinal haemorrhage. The cause of the haemorrhage was a lipoma of the terminal ileum that protruded into the caecum. The diagnosis was made endoscopically and radiologically. It was surgically treated with local excision.

This report, based on eight cases of our own and a review of the literature, indicates that colonic cancer metastatic to the ovaries has many unusual features and an extremley high mortality rate. Prophylactic bilateral oophorectomy in conjunction with large-bowel resection for cancer in women of all ages is strongly advised to decrease morbidity and improve the quality of survival.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Intestinal duplication is an uncommon congenital malformation affecting the alimentary tract. This article presents a case of enteric duplication cyst (EDC) in an adult, accompanied by a review of the available literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old woman with polymyositis underwent a routine CT scan as part of her medical assessment revealing an 8 cm mass near the caecum and terminal ileum. Diagnostic procedures confirmed a cystic spherical mass. The patient underwent ileo-cecal resection, with primary anastomosis and an uneventful recovery.

This is a case report highlighting the associated pathology of appendix tumours and the management of a large mucocele. Specifically, how a right hemicolectomy is very rarely needed in these cases regardless of size and local anatomical relationships and some important considerations for the practicing surgeon in the non-tertiary centre that encounters a case like this.
