OBJECTIVE: To study the possible role for HMGA2 overexpression in differentiated myometrial cells and its potential to induce a stem cell-like or dedifferentiating phenotype and drive fibroid development.
DESIGN: Myometrial cells were immortalized and transduced with an HMGA2 lentivirus to produce HMGA2hi cells. In vitro stem cell assays were conducted, and ribonucleic acid from HMGA2hi and control cells as well as fibroid-free myometrial and HMGA2 fibroid (HMGA2F) tissues were submitted for ribonucleic acid sequencing.

Vascular aging is characterized by endothelial senescence and vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotypic switching, yet the role of endothelial extracellular vesicles (EVs) in these processes remains unclear. We show that EVs from non-senescent endothelial cells prevent PDGF-BB-induced VSMC dedifferentiation, preserving contractile markers and limiting migration. In endothelial cells, EVs protected against TNF-α-induced eNOS downregulation but failed to reverse inflammatory and mitochondrial features of senescence after short-term exposure, highlighting a context-dependent protective role.

In this study the histologic grade of dedifferentiated liposarcomas was correlated with outcome in surgically resected specimens in 55 patients over a 19-year period at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. OBJECTIVE: To ascertain the presence of myofibroblasts in sacs associated with inguinal hernia in children, through an ultrastructural evaluation using electron microscopy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sacs were obtained from 10 boys and 10 girls (of similar age, approximately 45 months) with inguinal hernia and processed for electron microscopy. Thin sections were examined specifically for the presence of myofibroblasts.
RESULTS: The ultrastructural evaluation showed myofibroblasts with classical electron microscopic features within all of the sacs, regardless of the gender of origin.

Superficial leiomyosarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma that typically presents as a firm, painful nodule in adults older than 50 years. Bone tumors of the coracoid process of the scapula are rare, and diagnosis and treatment often are delayed. The records of 18 patients with bone tumors of the coracoid process were reviewed.
