Understanding the factors that contribute to the risk from fish consumption is an important public health concern because of potential adverse effects of radionuclides, organochlorines, other pesticides, and mercury. Radiation-induced (137Cs-gamma-rays) aberrations in the first chromosome in human peripheral lymphocytes were investigated using FISH technique. It was shown that the most of detectable aberrations were translocations (about one half) often appearing with deletions: about 1/3 of the number of translocations were dicentrics; rings and insertions were rare.

243 patients with carcinoma of corpus uteri were seen between 1980 and 1985, of which 175 Stage I cases were treated by one of six treatment protocols. The survivals of all six groups were comparable. Their complications are correlated with treatment and the time-dose factor (TDF) and extrapolated response dose (ERD) units for rectal radiation dose. We used density gradient methods to analyze mucus recovered from the airways of a patient who died from status asthmaticus. At postmortem the mucus that plugged the length of the bronchial tree could only be removed by cutting with forceps. Highly efficient single-layer organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are demonstrated using new N-heterocyclic carbazole-based host materials. Phosphorescent OLEDs with a structure of ITO/MoO(3) /host/host:dopant/host/Cs(2) CO(3) /Al are fabricated in which the new materials act simultaneously as electron-transport, hole-transport, and host layer. Devices with maximum current and external quantum efficiencies of 92.2 cd A(-1) and 26.8% are achieved, the highest reported to date for a single-layer OLED.

Apart from the vital role in glycoprotein biosynthesis and degradation, alpha-mannosidase is currently an important therapeutic target for the development of anticancer agents. Fluorescence quenching and time-resolved fluorescence of alpha-mannosidase, a multitryptophan protein from Aspergillus fischeri were carried out to investigate the tryptophan environment.
