Maternal childhood maltreatment (CM) represents an important factor in the transmission of trauma that may lead to impaired child mental health. Apart from childhood maltreatment insecure attachment has been identified as a risk factor for insensitive caregiving behavior, which may affect child's mental health. The aim of this study is to identify the working mechanisms in the relationship between maternal CM and child mental health, considering maternal attachment representation, mother-child-interaction und maternal helplessness and fear. N = 103 mother-child-dyads from a longitudinal cohort

AIM: The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether mother's oral health habits and knowledge for child oral care actually reflect on her young child's oral health and hence sought for direct evidence for this association.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred mothers accompanied their children, aged 2-5 years to a University Pediatric Dentistry Clinic and completed a three-arm questionnaire. Child dental caries (decayed, missing, filled surfaces-dmfs) and gingival bleeding index (GBI) were recorded. Correlations were sought by the analysis of variance (ANOVA).
RESULTS: A negative correla

Much of what is known about child abuse in Canada has come from reported cases of child abuse and at-risk samples, which likely represent the most severe cases of child abuse in the country. The objective of the current study is to examine the prevalence of a broad range of child abuse experiences (physical abuse, sexual abuse, and exposure to IPV) and investigate how such experiences and sociodemographic variables are related to contact with child protection organizations in Canada using a representative general population sample. Data were drawn from the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey

BACKGROUND: Senegal has certainly made significant efforts in adult literacy and in the fight against maternal and infant mortality. However, a large proportion of the female population is illiterate, and the country's maternal and infant mortality rates are still higher than WHO recommendations. This article examined the effect of women's literacy on maternal and child health in Senegal.
METHODS: Data were extracted from the last Senegal Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) collected in 2019. A binary logistic model was performed to assess the effect of women's literacy on ten outcomes of ma…

This article reviews the major activities of health care professional organizations (HCPAs), and emphasizes the role they can play in advocating for women and children and influencing maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) programs and policies. The ICM/FIGO joint effort to prevent postpartum hemorrhage and the 40-year partnership between the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Indian Health Service (IHS) are highlighted as examples of how and why HCPAs should assume a leadership role in advocacy work. The action-oriented multicountry HCPA workshops organized by the Partnership fo…

Integrating mental health care into well-attended health services, such as maternal-child health (MCH), offers a promising approach to increasing access to mental health care. To inform integration, we assessed the current approach to screening and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD) in MCH facilities in Western Kenya. We conducted a cross-sectional survey among the facility managers ("in-charges") at 20 MCH facilities in Western Kenya. Trained data collectors administered questionnaires to assess facility infrastructure and human resources, perinatal mental health screeni…

IMPORTANCE: Current studies examining the effects of Afghanistan's conflict transition on the performance of health systems, health service delivery, and health outcomes are outdated and small in scale and do not span all essential reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health interventions.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate associations of conflict severity with improvement of health system performance, use of health services, and child nutrition outcomes in Afghanistan during the 2003 to 2018 reconstruction period.

This study presents an overview of public sector interventions and progress made on the women's and child health front in Brazil between 1990 and 2015. We analyzed indicators of antenatal and labor and delivery care and maternal and infant health status using data from the Live Birth Information System and Mortality Information System, national surveys, published articles, and other sources. We also outline the main women's and child health policies and intersectoral poverty reduction programs. There was a sharp fall in fertility rates; the country achieved universal access to antenatal and la…

Microplastics (MPs) is defined as plastic particles less than 5 mm. MPs have become a major environmental pollutant and it is originating from the breakdown of larger plastic waste. This article aims to explore MPs exposure to human health, particularly its potential effects during early developmental years. Studies reveal that MPs exposure begins via intra-uterine route, where MPs were detected in the placenta, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord, fetal membranes, and umbilical vein blood. As infants developed, the MPs exposure continued via breast milk, milk storage bags, formula, feeding bottles

BACKGROUND: Maternal and child health improved considerably due to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. However, the rate of preventable death worldwide remains high. Nevertheless, implementation was insufficient in low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia. The study aims to assess the relationships between continuum of care (CoC) in maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) services and levels of care in Indonesia, examine the distribution of utilisation and investigate the associations between CoC in MNCH.

BACKGROUND: Monitoring universal health coverage in reproductive, maternal and child health requires appropriate indicators for assessing coverage and equity. In 2008, the composite coverage index (CCI)-a weighted average of eight indicators reflecting family planning, antenatal and delivery care, immunizations and management of childhood illnesses-was proposed. In 2017, the CCI formula was revised to update the family planning and diarrhea management indicators. We explored the implications of adding new indicators to the CCI.
METHODS: We analysed nationally representative surveys to investi…

BACKGROUND: Child maltreatment (CM) is associated with lifelong adverse outcomes but less is known about its intergenerational consequences. As these consequences often manifest as poor health, examining health service use provides an objective measure of clinically significant morbidity and healthcare burden in children.
OBJECTIVES: We investigated whether maternal CM history predicted offspring health service utilisation using an intergenerational dataset.
PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: Multigenerational retrospective cohort study.
METHODS: We analysed data from the Intergenerational Childhood

BACKGROUND: Even though the overall infant mortality rate and child mortality rate have considerably declined in India, the marginalised groups-Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribe, continue to have higher mortality rates. This study looks at the changes in IMR and CMR amongst disadvantaged and advanced social groups at the national level and in three states of India.
DATA AND METHODS: Data from five rounds of National Family Health Survey spanning nearly three decades have been used to measure IMR and CMR according to the social groups for India and for selected states-Bihar, West Bengal, an
