A retrospective analysis of 21 hirsute women seen at a gynaecological endocrine clinic revealed a high incidence of infertility, menstrual irregularities and abnormal androgen profile. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) was the underlying abnormality in the majority of cases. Cyproterone acetate (CPA) with ethinyl oestradiol in a reverse sequential regime was more effective and better tolerated but much more expensive than the combination of spironolactone and the oral contraceptive pill (OCP).

We report a young woman with systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) who developed diabetes secondary to extreme insulin resistance, associated with severe hyperandrogenism and acanthosis nigricans. Her insulin resistance was found to be associated with high titers of insulin receptor antibodies. The hyperandrogenism has been favourably influenced by cyclical treatment with cyproterone acetate and ethinyl oestradiol, but the insulin resistance and acanthosis nigricans have remained unmodified after 15 months of follow up.

Thirty-four patients (27 girls and 7 boys) with precocious puberty who had reached final height were examined in order to analyze their growth. OBJECTIVES: To study the effect of risk minimization measures taken in 2013 for cyproterone acetate/ethinylestradiol (CPA/EE) on initiation, concomitant use of other hormonal contraceptives (HC) and potential indications.
STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective study included data on CPA/EE use in 2011-2017 from the Netherlands, UK, and Italy.
RESULTS: The initiation rate of CPA/EE decreased by 44%-91% between 2011 and 2017. Proportions with concomitant use of other HC (<3%) and approved indications did not change over time.
