A case of leiomyosarcoma of the scrotum is reported for its rarity. The tumor measured 6.2 x 4 x 4 cm and presented as a gradually increasing painless mass of 1 month duration. Light microscopy showed the typical interlacing fascicles of neoplastic cells with mitotic count of 1-2 / 10 HPF in different areas. BACKGROUND: Many studies have elegantly shown that murine and rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (bmMSCs) contribute to muscle regeneration and improve muscle function. Yet, the ability of transplanted human bmMSCs to manifest myogenic potential shows conflicting results. Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children. We report a rare case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the soft palate in a 32-year-old Caucasian female. Detailed histology of the tumor is described. Positive staining with desmin, myogenin and myoD1 confirmed the tumor to be embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. A genetic association between rhabdomyosarcoma, polycystic ovary syndrome and the FEM1A gene on the human chromosome is speculated upon.
