OBJECTIVE: To review the signalment, clinical characteristics, and outcome of horses with nonhealing corneal ulcers treated with diamond burr debridement (DBD); and to evaluate the role of ulcer duration, size and location, and bandage contact lens (BCL) placement on healing.
ANIMALS: From January 2012-April 2013, 60 horses were diagnosed with ulcers classified as nonhealing based on the presence of raised epithelial margins and duration of at least 7 days.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings are known to have extremely low wear in many technical applications. The application of DLC as a coating has aimed at lowering wear and to preventing wear particle-induced osteolysis in artificial hip joints. In a medical study femoral heads coated with diamond-like amorphous carbon, a subgroup of DLC, articulating against polyethylene cups were implanted between 1993 and 1995. Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome (SDS) is a rare inherited disease caused by mutations in the SBDS gene. Hematopoietic defects, exocrine pancreas dysfunction and short stature are the most prominent clinical features. PURPOSE: To evaluate the use of diamond burr polishing as an in-office treatment for recurrent corneal erosion (RCE).
METHODS: A double-masked randomized controlled trial was conducted. Boron-doped diamond (BDD) films were synthesized via microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition at five boron-to-carbon ratios to investigate dopant effects on perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) electrooxidation and electrode stability. We measured the residual stress tensor in a nitrogen-doped chemical vapor deposition (001) diamond film. The stress tensor was evaluated from the amount of the shift in optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectra of NV center in the diamond. Shwachman-Diamond syndrome (SDS) is one of the most commonly inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (IBMFS). In SDS, bone marrow is hypocellular, with marked neutropenia.
