Opossums are considered resistant to rabies. Nonhematophagous bats are reservoirs of rabies in urban areas of South America. We analyzed bats and opossums tested for rabies during 2021 in a highly urbanized city in Brazil to understand spillover in an urban setting. Wildlife surveillance is necessary to prevent rabies in humans and domestic animals.

Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) syndrome is a rare Müllerian duct anomaly, commonly characterized by uterus didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal agenesis. Uterine anomalies are associated with unilateral renal aplasia. We present the MR features of five cases with 'double' uteri. The anomalies consisted of four cases of uterus didelphys and one of a complete septate uterus. All the cases with uterus didelphys also had a longitudinal vaginal septum. Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome is a rare developmental anomaly that includes uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. A 13-year-old girl presented with chronic abdominal pain. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed uterus didelphys, hematometrocolpos and renal agenesis on the right side with imperforate hymen. Subsequently the patient was found to have Mullerian duct anomalies. CA 19-9 level was high. At laparoscopy combined with vaginoscopy hematocolpos was drained following which she improved clinically and CA 19-9 level returned to normal.

PURPOSE: Though the Müllerian duct anomalies are rare in incidence, their variable age, and mode of presentation makes their management difficult.
METHODS: In the last 10 years authors managed 14 patients with different types of Müllerian anomalies. There were eight patients with complete Müllerian agenesis: three of partial Müllerian agenesis, one patient had uterine didelphys with vertical and transverse vaginal septum on left side, one patient had uterine didelphys with cervical agenesis on the right side, one patient had MRKH with anorectal malformation.

CASE PRESENTATION: Authors present a case of Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome in a 19-year-old unmarried woman who presented with pelvic pain and pelvic mass. MR imaging revealed the typical features of didelphys uterus, obstructed right hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. The patient subsequently underwent surgery.

BACKGROUND: Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome is an uncommon variant of Müllerian duct anomalies, consisting of uterine didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal agenesis. It usually presents in a post-pubertal adolescent or adult woman in whom hematometrocolpos produces a pronounced mass effect and pain on the side of the obstructed hemivagina.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 13-year-old girl who presented to the emergency radiology department with sudden onset of severe pain at the right lower quadrant of the abdomen; imaging confirmed the diagnosis of HWW syndrome.
