The authors report a case of a 61-year-old woman diagnosed with large bladder diverticulum. Diagnosis was performed only after a series of investigations carried out for the occasional finding of hypercreatininaemia. Although the significant volumes of post void residual (PVR) and the relevant urine stagnation in the diverticulum, subjective symptomatology was absent and urinalysis and urine culture were negative. The scheduled therapeutic plan consisted of fosfomycin three grams every ten days for sixmonths, self-catheterization twice a day, voiding on a time schedule, and adequate fluid inta…

Giant colonic diverticulum (GCD) is a rare complication of diverticular disease with less than 150 cases reported in the English literature. The clinical presentation ranges from asymptomatic to that of an acute abdomen. In most cases, giant colonic diverticulum is found in the sigmoid colon. The ideal treatment is elective resection of the sigmoid colon with primary anastomosis. When the diverticulum presents with perforation or obstruction, however, the treatment is a sigmoid colectomy with diverting colostomy (Hartmann procedure).

Congenital extraluminal duodenal diverticula are extremely rare. They usually present as repeated crisis of abdominal pain and most of the times their diagnosis is accidental because laboratory test performed by other cause. We report a girl with relapse crisis of abdominal pain since 2 years, the laboratory and radiographic findings are displayed. It is noteworthy that this disease can be life threatening sometime, when an acute abdomen is developed. Conversely of criteria followed in adults, surgery is adviced in children even without symptoms, to avoid further risks.

Pharyngeal pouches occur most commonly in elderly patients (over 70 years) and typical symptoms include dysphagia, regurgitation, chronic cough, aspiration, and weight loss. The aetiology remains unknown but theories centre upon a structural or physiological abnormality of the cricopharyngeus. A diagnosis is easily established on barium studies. Treatment is surgical via an endoscopic or external cervical approach and should include a cricopharyngeal myotomy. Unfortunately pharyngeal pouch surgery has long been associated with significant morbidity, partly due to the surgery itself and also to

Congenital anterior urethral diverticulum (CAUD) was diagnosed in 7 male subjects, of whom 3 cases were neonates, 3 cases were school aged and 1 case was adolescent. Varying degrees of urinary obstruction, often associated with urinary tract infection, were the main presenting symptoms. Urinary ascites, a rare manifestation of CAUD, was presented in a neonate associated with severe upper urinary tract changes. In 6 cases the diverticulum was of the wide-mouthed saccular type, and in 1 case of the narrow neck globular type. The clinical presentations, methods of diagnosis and the treatment moda…

Four cases of acquired urethral diverticula in male subjects are reviewed. All patients presented with complications such as urinary tract infection, urethral fistulas and stone or sequestrum formation in the diverticulum. The recommended treatment is excision of the diverticulum and repair of the urethra. The relevant literature has been reviewed.
