Two cases of Dogger Bank Itch responding to oral cyclosporin (Neoral) are reported. The first, a 42-year-old shell-fisherman, presented with eczema on his face, forearms and hands. Oral prednisolone was ineffective and in subsequent years systemic steroids and topical clobetasol propionate allowed him to continue his work. In the shellfishing season of 1996, cyclosporin (Neoral) was introduced and the eczema was subsequently satisfactorily controlled. The second fisherman, aged 46, presented with an irritant eczema of the hands and forearms. Initial treatment with emollients and potent topical

We describe three patients with frontoparietal scleroderma showing multiple lesions. The lesions were in two different lines that seemed to belong to Blaschko's lines. It remains controversial whether linear scleroderma follows Blaschko's lines, but our observations presented here suggest that frontoparietal scleroderma occurs along the lines of Blaschko.

Characteristic findings, differential diagnosis and clinical course of the so-called "circumscript granulomas" (Granuloma anulare, necrobiosis lipoidica, Miescher's granulomatosis, disciformis, necrobiosis maculosa, granuloma multiforme, actinic granuloma, granuloma faciale and lethal midline granuloma etc.) are represented in a condensed clinical survey.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of contact allergy to the isothiazolinone preservative methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) in combination with methylisothiazolinone (MI) and MI alone has increased in the last couple of years.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the prevalence of contact allergy to MI, MCI/MI and benzisothiazolinone (BIT) among patch tested patients at Gentofte Hospital, as well as the use of MI in cosmetic products.
METHODS: Patients patch tested with either MI, MCI/MI or BIT from 2010 to 2012 were included in the study. The MOAHLFA index was registered in all patch tested patients, and rel

Tacrolimus is an ascomycin macrolactam derivative with immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activity that belongs to the class of calcineurin inhibitors. Tacrolimus in its topical formulation has been established as a safe and effective alternative to topical corticosteroids because of its mild side effects and its minimal systemic absorption. Topical tacrolimus has been approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in two concentrations, 0.03 and 0.1%. In a thorough research of literature the authors review all of the available data regarding the off-label uses of the medication in other

A 50-year-old, previously healthy male presented with a five-month history of a progressively enlarging erythematous papule on the nose, which evolved into a verrucous plaque on the face. He reported weight loss without fever, arthralgias, or other systemic symptoms. Physical examination revealed confluent verrucous plaques on the face, gingival stomatitis with a moriform appearance, an erythematous plaque on the palate, and bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy. Histopathological exam showed multiple budding yeast cells arranged in a characteristic "mariner's wheel" pattern, consistent with Para

Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (LMDF) is a rare chronic inflammatory and granulomatous skin disease characterized by reddish-brown papules and nodules on the central face. Although this disease can spontaneously resolve, disfiguring scars can often remain. This disease responds poorly to general treatments. Except for systemic hormones, the efficacy of other drugs is unclear. There are few reports on the use of laser treatment for LMDF. Here, we report a case of LMDF that was successfully treated with a 595 nm pulsed-dye laser combined with glucocorticoids and isotretinoin. The treatment o

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a common neurocutaneous disorder that predominantly affects the brain, skin, eyes, heart and kidneys. The management of tuberous sclerosis complex has been revolutionised with vigabatrin for spasms and everolimus for angiomyolipomas and seizures. We describe a 10-year-old girl with generalised tonic-clonic seizures whose diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis complex was made in view of the presence of a forehead plaque. Certain clinical pointers such as ashleaf macules, café-au-lait spots, shagreen patches and forehead plaques must therefore be looked for in a child wit

A 70-year-old woman with a history of Demodex blepharitis presented with a 1-year history of red-yellow nodules in the tarsus of her eyelids. Excisional biopsy revealed robust caseating granulomatous inflammation, consistent with the diagnosis of lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei. Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei is a rare granulomatous dermatosis of unknown etiology. Estimated 200 cases have been reported to date, but none have been reported affecting the posterior lamellae of the eyelids. Lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei classically presents as symmetric yellow or brown papules on the c

Acne vulgaris is the most common skin condition affecting adolescents and young adults with a tremendous psychosocial impact. Its pathogenic hallmarks include follicular dyskeratosis, increased sebum production, and inflammation induced by Cutibacterium (formerly Propionibacterium) acnes within the follicle. Retinoids, derived from vitamin A, are the mainstays of acne treatment given they address the key pathogenic pathways of acne. Retinoids exert their effects through the binding of their nuclear receptors leading to downstream biological effects. The understanding of retinoid pharmacology h

Morbihan disease, also referred to as solid facial edema, or rosacea lymphedema, is a rare disorder that involves chronic erythema and solid edema of the cheeks, eyelids, forehead and glabella and may arise as a complication of acne vulgaris or rosacea. Of note, it may be the only initial presenting symptom of these associated diseases. Few cases have been described in the literature, as its first description by Robert Degos in 1957. The condition is characterized by its chronicity, a typical clinical appearance and the lack of specific histopathologic or laboratory findings. The condition may

Demodex mites may induce inflammatory cutaneous reactions such as papulopustular rosacea and demodex folliculitis; both may lead to post inflammatory pigmentation. A 59-year-old man presented with an asymptomatic, hyperpigmented plaque on his face. Histological and clinical findings displayed Riehl-like facial pigmentation. Multiple demodex mites at the follicular infundibulum in the biopsy material were remarkable. There are limited publications about demodex-associated pigmentation. We report this case to point out that various hyperpigmentation disorders may occur simultaneously with demode
