BACKGROUND: Despite improvements in technology and surgical techniques, abdominal injuries caused by firearms in children are traumatic with high complication rates and mortality. BACKGROUND: Firearm violence results in the death of thousands of children in the US annually. The effects of firearm legislation on gun violence are published but widely contested.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Kid's Inpatient Database from 2000 to 2009 were queried to capture hospitalizations of children diagnosed with a firearm-related injury. Cases were categorized into five levels of firearm legislation strictness by Brady State Scorecard. Trends of injuries were explored in terms of legislative strength, age, and race.

OBJECTIVE: To review firearm injuries in five hospitals of Douala and Yaounde, both towns of Cameroon, a Sub-Saharan African country where ownership of firearm is forbidden.
METHODS: This was a retrospective investigation carried out within the period January 1998 to December 2002. Records of the mortuaries, the emergency departments, the intensive care units, the operating rooms and the surgical units were all analysed to identify any injury caused by firearm. Climate change is creating more frequent extreme weather events, but impacts on violence are not well understood. We explored associations of extreme weather with firearm violence and child maltreatment in Wayne County, Michigan.
