BACKGROUND: Bilateral trans-radial trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture-dislocation is one of the less common injuries of the wrist, occurring as a consequence of high-energy trauma. Its coincidence with bilateral elbow dislocation is extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: The authors present a case of a 24-year old male of Czech origin who attained this unique injury by falling from a height of 4 m onto both upper extremities. Bilateral open reduction of the wrists using both palmar and dorsal approaches and closed reduction of both elbow joints was performed. The arms were immobilized in casts fo

CASE: A 21-year-old, active duty male sustained an irreducible, complex Lisfranc fracture-dislocation with distal extrusion of his intermediate cuneiform. He was treated in a staged manner with external fixator placement, followed by an extended midfoot fusion with autograft bone. At 19 months, he could perform all activities of daily living independently with minimal pain using an Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Complex Lisfranc injuries are severe and often result in chronic pain and disability after operative management. To our knowledge, this is the only case report de

BACKGROUND: A combined fracture of the glenoid rim, greater tuberosity, and coracoid process after anterior shoulder dislocation is a rare event. Only 1 patient has been reported in the literature.
METHODS: All patients with a first-time traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation in a level A trauma center were retrospectively reviewed. Among the 2068 patients treated between 1998 and 2013, we identified 6 patients (0.3%; 1 female, 5 male) with "triple dislocation fracture" (anterior shoulder dislocation with concomitant fracture of the glenoid rim, greater tuberosity, and coracoid process). All

INTRODUCTION: Subtalar dislocation is defined by a simultaneous total separation of the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints. Lateral variety is the rarest. It is the result of a high energy trauma. It occurs following forced eversion, with the foot locked in a rut with pressure on the lateral aspect of the leg. Articular fractures of the calcaneus occur as a result of axial impact on the greater tuberosity. We report the case of a lateral subtalar dislocation associated with a calcaneal fracture.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old man who presented to the emergency room following a 9 m fall.

Monteggia fracture constitutes about 5-10% of the forearm fractures. Monteggia fracture by definition is proximal ulnar fracture with disruption of proximal radioulnar joint. Bado classified Monteggia fracture dislocation into four types and Jupiter subclassified type II Bado's fractures into four types. The associated injury in the form of distal radial fractures and distal humerus fractures are rare though many cases of distal radial physeal injuries have been reported in paediatric population. Hereby we report a rare association of type IIA Monteggia fracture dislocation with ipsilateral di…

UNLABELLED: Calcaneus fractures are the most commonly fractured tarsal bone with approximately 75% being intra-articular in nature. Böhler's angle has been found to be reliable and prognostic, and it has been used as a proxy for joint depression and articular involvement. It often guides the need for advanced imaging and/or operative intervention. We describe a rare variant of intra-articular calcaneus fracture-dislocation that results in elevation of a portion of the posterior facet above the posterior talus and a seemingly normal or increased Böhler's angle, which we call the "joint-elevatio

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic value of multidetector spiral CT (MSCT) in acute thoracolumbar spinal fracture and fracture-dislocation.
METHODS: CT imaging files of 152 consecutive traumatic patients with thoracolumbar fractures were retrospectively reviewed. MSCT scannings were performed with a collimation of 3-5 mm and a pitch of 5.5. The postprocessing included sagittal and coronal multiplannar reconstruction, and 3-D reconstruction.
RESULTS: There were 88 cases of compression fracture, 54 cases of burst fracture and 10 cases of fracture-dislocation. Transverse images of MSCT co

A 12-year-old boy with a severe injury of his right ankle was treated in the accident unit. The local condition was an extensive open wound with parts of the fractured bones prominent. Radiographs showed a severely displaced fracture of the body of the talus associated with a Salter-Harris IV injury of the distal tibia and subluxation of the ankle. After proper debridement the fractured bones were reduced and fixed. Eleven years later both fractures are completely healed without any sign of avascular necrosis, the patient has full painless ankle movement and he can perform his demanding occupa

We report a rare case of Galeazzi fracture-dislocation with an irreducible distal radioulnar joint. The cause of the irreducibility was entrapment of a fragment avulsed from the fovea of the ulna. The patient was successfully treated with open reduction and internal fixation of the radius, ulnar styloid process and avulsed fracture at the fovea of the ulna.

Capitate fractures are serious and rare carpal injuries. A case of a closed, isolated capitate fracture is presented. The largest fragment of the capitate, which was fractured at its waist, was dislocated with the wrist twisted in an ulnodorsal orientation. The supposed traumatic cause of the capitate fracture was a fall onto the outstretched and ulnar-deviated hand. After open reduction, osteosynthesis with K-wires was performed. Immobilization for 6 weeks in a plaster-of-Paris cast followed. The excellent functional result (according to the modified evaluation scale of Pechlaner/Beck) obtain

Introduction Perilunate dislocations and perilunate fracture-dislocations of the carpus are serious wrist injuries that have significant functional and socio-occupational consequences. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical, radiological, and therapeutic characteristics of these injuries and to evaluate their outcomes. Methods We conducted a retrospective study over five years, including patients over the age of 15 with a pure perilunate dislocation or a perilunate fracture-dislocation confirmed by standard wrist X-rays. Demographic, clinical, radiological, t

BACKGROUND: Concomitant carpal injuries with dislocations and fracture-dislocations of the carpometacarpal joints (CMCD/FD) are often hard to see on plain radiographs, making advanced imaging a useful diagnostic adjunct. We aim to: (1) characterize bony injury patterns with CMCD/FD; and (2) determine the frequency that preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans change surgical management.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of patients who underwent operative fixation of CMCD/FD from 2006 to 2021. X-ray and CT scan diagnoses were reviewed and correlated to intraoperative findings a

UNLABELLED: Safe surgical dislocation with a trochanteric flip osteotomy has been shown to be a reliable technique that provides excellent exposure for treating femoral-head fractures with minimal complications. This technique also allows associated labral injuries and acetabular fractures to be treated through the same approach.
DESCRIPTION: The procedure is performed with use of a conventional Kocher-Langenbeck exposure with the patient in the lateral position. The trochanteric flip is performed, allowing exposure of the anterior capsule, which is incised to dislocate the head anteriorly. F

Arthroscopy : the journal of arthroscopic & related surgery : official publication of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the International Arthroscopy Association2005eng
Perilunate injuries are severe disruptions of the wrist joint that produce variable patterns of injury to the carpal anatomy. Most surgeons advocate an open reduction followed by ligament repair or internal fixation. We tried to reduce and fix the carpal bones under arthroscopic control to minimize surgical trauma and to preserve blood supply. While viewing the articular surface with the arthroscope, the disrupted proximal carpal row was anatomically reduced using Kirschner wires as joysticks, and fixed percutaneously without any repair of the capsuloligamentous tears. Three patients with dors

Pelvic ring fractures are often accompanied by complications, including vascular injuries such as life-threatening intra-abdominal bleeding and urinary tract damage resulting from direct external force. While urethral and bladder injuries are the most common urologic complications, testicular dislocation is rarely reported. Traumatic testicular dislocation (TTD), although uncommon, is frequently associated with motorcycle accidents and remains relatively unfamiliar to orthopedic surgeons, which can lead to delayed diagnosis. However, prolonged untreated dislocation may result in impaired sperm
