Approximately 3% of all joint dislocations involve the hip joint, and only 8-10% of these will be anterior. Traumatic anterior open dislocation of the hip is rare in children and prone to be associated with injuries, extensive soft tissue damage, and avascular necrosis of the femoral head. We present a case of a 13-year-old boy who had an open anterior dislocation of the hip with ipsilateral avulsion of the greater trochanter after a tractor wheel crush in an agricultural accident. Additional lesions included a diaphyseal closed fracture of the contralateral femur. We report this case because

Avulsion fractures of the first metatarsal (MT1) base at the peroneus longus (PL) tendon attachment are rare and may be undiagnosed during an emergency visit. If the injury is not treated properly, chronic pain or persistent impairment for inversion and plantar-flexion of the first ray may occur. This case report presents a 30-year-old woman who presented 10 weeks post trauma to a foot and ankle surgeon due to a swollen right midfoot with diffuse tenderness over the medial Lisfranc joint. Further evaluation showed an isolated avulsion fracture of the first metatarsal, which was undiagnosed dur

INTRODUCTION: Radial styloid fracture and concomitant first dorsal compartment proximal musculotendinous avulsion is extremely rare injury. This togetherness is difficult to diagnose fully on routine physical examination.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: In this study, we present a thirty nine year old male patient who suffered musculotendinous avulsion injury of the extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) tendon and abduc- tor pollicis longus (APL) tendon that is rarely accompanied by a closed, non-displaced radial styloid fracture developed following an in-car traffic accident. Diagnosis of avulsion was made w

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopically assisted treatment of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibial eminence avulsion fractures associated with meniscus posterior horn tear.
METHODS: Between January 2012 and December 2014, 21 patients with PCL avulsion fracture and meniscus posterior horn tear were arthroscopically treated with polyester suture and hollow screw fixation. There were 10 males (10 knees) and 11 females (11 knees), aged 14-53 years (mean, 35.7 years). The causes included sport injury in 11 cases, traffic accident injury in 9 cases, and daily life injury in

We introduce a case of traumatic dislocation of the posterior tibial tendon with avulsion fracture of the medial malleolus in a 52-year-old female patient who was treated surgically with periosteal flap and suture anchor fixation. Based in the posteromedial ridge of the distal tibia, a quadrilateral periosteal flap was created and folded over the tendon, followed by fixation on the lateral aspect of the groove by use of multiple suture anchors. Clinical and radiological findings 25 months postoperatively showed well-preserved function of the ankle joint with stable tendon gliding.

The authors present the case of a right hand dominant adult who sustained a fracture of the distal radial styloid with complete avulsion of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis tendons at their musculotendinous junctions. The authors could not find any reports of these injuries occurring together in the literature. No formal tendon reconstructive procedure was performed but full functional use of the injured extremity has been regained.

Although tibial end avulsions of the anterior cruciate ligament are relatively common in clinical practice, avulsions of the femoral end of this ligament are by comparison rare. We present the case of an 11-year-old boy with a bony avulsion injury, which was presumed to have arisen from the tibial insertion of the anterior cruciate ligament but turned out instead to be an osteochondral avulsion fracture of the femoral origin. This unexpected finding that was not detected during preoperative workup resulted in the first attempt at surgical fixation being aborted. The need for a second planned d

It has been theorized that a traumatic tibial avulsion fracture of the posterior root of the medial meniscus (MM) is the cause of the so-called meniscus ossicle (MO). We report the delayed appearance of a tibial avulsion fracture of the posterior root of the MM after a valgus, twisting injury in a 12-year-old boy with open physes. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans performed 3 days after the injury did not demonstrate a definitive tibial avulsion fracture of the posterior root of the MM; whereas, a repeat MRI for 3 months post-injury did. Medial extrusion of the MM was also noted on the 3

INTRODUCTION: To the best of our knowledge there is no other report of an elderly patient who was surgically treated for a patellar fracture with tension band wiring and who subsequently suffered from an avulsion fracture of the tibial tuberosity. The combination of a patellar fracture and avulsion of the patellar ligament has only been described as complication after bone-patellar tendon-bone anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. However, due to demographic changes and more elderly patients treated this injury may become more frequent in future.

A 13-year-old boy sustained an avulsion fracture of the left greater trochanter eight months after surgical stabilisation of a slipped capital femoral epiphysis on the same side. In this specific case, avulsion of the greater trochanter after slipping of the capital femoral epiphysis may have been facilitated by weakening of the trochanteric physis.

The malleolar attachment sites of the tibionavicular (TN), tibiocalcaneal (TC), posterior tibiotalar (PTT), anterior talofibular (ATF), and calcaneofibular (CF) ligaments of 3 cadaveric ankles were dissected. Standard and new radiographic projections of the ankle were obtained with the foot in different positions and various degrees of beam angulation. Simulated avulsion injuries related to these ligaments were created, and the visibility of these structures was assessed. Avulsion injuries of the TN ligament were better assessed in the plantar-flexed radiographs with lateral beam angulation. S

Coronoid process fractures are reported to occur from avulsion by the brachialis muscle or to be associated with elbow dislocations. We report a rare case of coronoid process fracture due to avulsion by the anterior bundle of the medial collateral ligament rendering the elbow unstable. In children, small fracture fragments of the coronoid process (types 1 & 2) are in reality often much larger but the actual size is not appreciated radiographically, as the coronoid process contains considerable amounts of cartilage. If the fragment is seen to be significantly displaced it may have resulted from

Avulsion fractures of the lateral tibial plateau, known as the lateral capsular sign, are increasingly associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures. This phenomenon, known as the Ségond fracture, is a bony avulsion of the menisco-tibial ligament. Stress, which can lead to an avulsion of this kind, almost always occurs during knee flexion and internal tibial rotation, and in most cases only after damage to the primary ACL stabilizer. Examination of 151 ACL ruptures revealed a Ségond fracture in 9% of patients. Nearly all were caused by sports injuries and, understandably, the accid

Ligamentous injuries to the knee do occur in children with open physes. Rarely, the posterior cruciate ligament may be involved and prompt attention to repair when recognized is encouraged. While avulsion occurs, more commonly, from the femoral insertion of the posterior cruciate, the tibial origin may be the site of injury, as in this case report. Complete examination of fractured femurs in children is therefore necessary. Early ligamentous repair is superior to later reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Avulsion fracture of the tibial tuberosity is a rare orthopedic injury, predominantly affecting adolescents but seldom seen in the adult population. Lateral tibial plateau fractures, while more common, infrequently present combined with tibial tuberosity avulsion. No established classification system currently describes or guides management for cases featuring both lateral tibial plateau split fracture and tibial tuberosity avulsion.
CASE REPORT: This report describes a 30-year-old male presenting with acute knee pain and swelling following a road traffic accident. Radiographic ev

Introduction Ischial tuberosity apophyseal avulsion fractures (ITAFs) are rare injuries occurring primarily in adolescent males. ITAFs are typically caused by a strong eccentric hamstring contraction that avulses the ischial apophysis before it is fully fused. However, there is currently no consensus on its therapeutic paradigm. Case Presentation A 13-year-old male presented with posterior thigh pain after a twisting injury. On exam, he had ischial tenderness, limited hip flexion, and lower extremity paresthesias. Imaging revealed a proximally displaced ischial tuberosity apophyseal avulsion f

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effectiveness of three internal fixation methods, namely hollow screw combined with Kirschner wire tension band, hollow screw combined with anchor nail, and modified 1/3 tubular steel plate, in the treatment of avulsion fracture of tibial tubercle (AFTT) in adolescents.
METHODS: Between January 2018 and September 2023, 19 adolescent AFTT patients who met the selection criteria were admitted. According to different internal fixation methods, patients were divided into group A (8 cases, hollow screw combined with Kirschner wire tension band), group B (6 cases, hollow s

Tibial tubercle avulsion fractures (TTAFs) are rare but typical in children and adolescents and Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) may be involved in their pathogenesis. However, few publications have reported the relationship between OSD and TTAF. A 16-year-old healthy male adolescent presented with pain, swelling and limited range of motion of the right knee following sudden acceleration while running. Based on the radiographic evidence, the patient was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of the right tibial tubercle and OSD. Open reduction and internal fixation were performed using two cannulat
