The paper provides the evidence on interaction of the endocrine system hypophysis-gonads with varicocele. Gonadotropic hormones and sexual steroids were measured in the blood of varicocele males (47 cases) and of fertile healthy males (17 cases), testosterone in the tissue of the sexual glands and blood of white noninbred rats (40 test against 20 control animals). This is a report about a phenotypical normal girl with nephropathy and gonadal dysgenesis. At the age of 2 years 8 months she presented with steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was found by biopsy. Because of delayed puberty karyotyping was performed, which revealed 46 XY. The Authors report a case of mixed gonadal dysgenesis (DGM), with a mosaic karyotype consisting of two cell lines, one with 45 chromosomes and monosomic X (50%), the other with 46 chromosomes and one Y dicentric chromosome (50%). Between February 1987 and February 1989, 13 women with primary ovarian failure due to gonadal dysgenesis were treated with embryo transfer following ovum donation in 22 cycles. Many chemotherapeutic agents have been shown to cause variable degrees of gonadal dysfunction in both sexes and in all age groups. The severity of the dysfunction depends on the total drug dose and the age at time of therapy. In general, cytotoxic agents produce gonadal dysfunction in men while they produce premature gonadal failure in women. Splenic-gonadal fusion is an unusual congenital anomaly resulting from the fusion of the splenic and gonadal anlagen at approximately the sixth week of gestation. A 14-mo-old male presenting with signs and symptoms of testicular torsion underwent scrotal exploration, and ectopic splenic tissue was found adjacent to the left testis. The operative diagnosis of splenic-gonadal fusion prompted abdominal scanning with 99mTc-sulfur colloid. Male and female embryos develop in an identical fashion during the initial portion of gestation. If the indifferent gonad differentiates into an ovary (or if no gonad is present), a female phenotype is formed. Male phenotypic differentiation, however, requires the presence of an endocrinologically active testis. The classification of intersexuality was determined in 10 patients with an intersex disorder who subsequently suffered a Wilms tumor. Of these 10 patients 7 (70 per cent) had a disorder of gonadal dysgenesis: 5 had mixed gonadal dysgenesis, 1 had dysgenetic male pseudohermaphroditism and 1 had 46XY pure gonadal dysgenesis. The authors present a case of a coincidence of two very rare diseases in a female--hemophilia A and gonadal dysgenesis; both may be caused by chromosomal and genetic abnormalities. The girl, aged 22, presented severe hemophilia with excessive haematoma after bruising and recurrent hemarthroses, had undeveloped breasts and very hypoplastic internal genital organs. Laboratory tests revealed factor VIII: C - 1%, VIII R: AG - 160%, VIII:WF - 111%, 46, XX karyotype, elevated LH in urine - 25 IU/l. This coincidence had a beneficial effect since there was no menorrhagia.

LRH and hCG tests were performed in 35 prepubertal and 35 pubertal boys with unilateral or bilateral cryptorchidism to examine the pituitary and gonadal function. A 5-year-old girl was discovered to have an abnormal karyotype with a translocation involving the Y chromosome. The primary complaint was slight physical growth retardation. Cytogenetic and endocrinologic evaluations were performed. The chromosomal complement exhibited a mosaicism: 45,X,t(Y;18)(q11;p11)/45,X0. Eight documented cases of true hermaphroditism have been seen in the reproductive endocrine unit at the Medical College of Georgia since 1969. There was histologic evidence of both ovarian and testicular tissue in all cases. Seven patients had peripheral blood karyotypes: 6 had normal 46,XX peripheral blood karyotypes, and 1 patient had a normal 46,XY blood karyotype.
