By binding to host proteins to form haptens, low-molecular-weight compounds such as p-phenylenediamine (PPD) can become contact sensitizers. In this issue, Jenkinson et al. demonstrate that it is possible to use chemically characterized hapten-protein complexes to analyze T-cell responses in cells from allergic individuals. OBJECTIVE: To examine the anti-inflammatory activities of tea tree oil (TTO) in vivo.
METHODS: Mice were sensitized to a chemical hapten, trinitrochlorobenzene, on their ventral skin and 7 days later challenged (or re-exposed) on their dorsal skin with the same hapten.

IgE levels after Nippostrongylus brasiliensis infestation were high in all strains of mice examined except in the SJA/9 strain. However, surface IgE levels on B cells were not different from those observed in the SJL strain. Most surface IgE-bearing cells also had surface IgM molecules.
