BACKGROUND: Similar to other low and middle-income countries, Ethiopia faces limitations in using local health data for decision-making.We aimed to assess the effect of an intervention, namely the data-informed platform for health, on the culture of data-based decision making as perceived by district health office staff in Ethiopia's North Shewa Zone.
METHODS: By designating district health offices as 'clusters', a cluster-randomised controlled trial was implemented. Out of a total of 24 districts in the zone, 12 districts were allocated to intervention arm and the other 12 in the control gro

OBJECTIVE: To understand the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown on the self-care of people living with chronic diseases and on their self-perceived health, and to identify factors that may influence the management of their disease in emergency situations.
METHOD: A qualitative study conducted in 2020 (March and April) in Andalusia (Spain) during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, through virtual focus groups, using the Zoom telematics tool. Three virtual focus groups were conducted, including 34 patients from Andalusia with different chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, ca

BACKGROUND: Adhering to healthy lifestyle recommendations is vital for cancer prevention and survival but may be constrained by patients' social drivers of health (SDOH). Because the internet is a primary source of cancer-related health information, we assessed all clinical National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers' (NCI-CCCs) websites for content and programmatic supports related to lifestyle and SDOH.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Qualitative content analysis of all 58 clinical NCI-CCC websites used a codebook of 28 content areas within 7 domains based on the Public Health A

Avian influenza (AI) is a listed disease of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that has become a disease of great importance both for animal and human health. The increased relevance of AI in the fields of animal and human health has highlighted the lack of scientific information on several aspects of the disease, which has hampered the adequate management of some of the recent crises. Millions of animals have died, and there is growing concern over the loss of human lives and over the management of the pandemic potential. The present paper aims to identify areas of knowledge of ve

Digitalized human resources information system (HRIS) is promoted to strengthen health workforce governance, yet its implementation often breaks down in many low-resource settings. We explored barriers and facilitators to HRIS implementation at provincial and health zone levels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and identified intervention points. This qualitative study involved interviews with 46 staff from provincial health divisions and health zones in three provinces of the DRC: Kongo Central, Haut-Katanga, and Kwango, representing different stages of HRIS rollout. Interviews we

A web-based transitional health record was created to provide regional healthcare professionals with ubiquitous access to information on people with brain injuries as they move through the healthcare system. Participants included public, private, and community healthcare organizations/providers in Eastern Ontario (Canada). One hundred and nineteen service providers and 39 brain injury survivors registered over 6 months. Fifty-eight percent received English and 42% received bilingual services (English-French). Public health providers contacted the regional service coordinator more than private

Introduction: Post-COVID-19 is an increasing chronic disease for which potential treatment options require further development and examination. A well-established approach to symptom management in post-COVID-19 patients could be e-Health interventions. To enhance the implementation and utilization of e-Health interventions, the needs and demands of patients should be taken into consideration. The aim of this study was to investigate needs and demands of post-COVID-19 patients concerning e-Health symptom management interventions. Methods: A total of 556 patients participated in this cross-secti

IMPORTANCE: Informal caregivers have valuable insights that occupational therapists can use to prevent and manage problems that may arise in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) because of a lack of physical activity and poor nutrition.
OBJECTIVE: To assess caregiver-identified facilitators of weight management in people with SCI.
DESIGN: Descriptive qualitative design using semistructured interviews and thematic analysis.
SETTING: Regional SCI Care Model System and Veterans Health Administration.
PARTICIPANTS: Informal caregivers (n = 24) of people with SCI.

Pain is a common problem for patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Knowledge about patients' experience of the pain, pain management, and pain's effect on everyday life is, however, limited. In clinical practice there is a need to improve the care of these patients. To be able to do so, information about how the disease and its pain affect the patients is required. This study explores patients' experience of living with ADPKD and its pain. The findings are based on in-depth semistructured interviews. The participants were 22 patients with ADPKD. The data were tran

Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) face significant challenges in self-managing their chronic condition. Digital health technology (DHT) has become increasingly common and understanding ALHIVs' preferences is essential for developing interventions tailored to this unique population. This study aimed to explore the preferences of ALHIV regarding the use of DHT for self-management. A qualitative research approach with an exploratory and descriptive design was used. Participants were recruited using a purposive sampling method. Data were gathered through six nominal focus groups with 29 particip

Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting over a billion people globally, requires effective long-term self-management for successful outcomes. However, a significant gap persists between patient knowledge and sustained behavioural change. This review proposes and synthesizes evidence for a paradigm shift in periodontal care: continuous nursing based on the Information-Knowledge-Attitude-Practice (IKAP) theory. We deconstruct the IKAP framework as a sequential cascade where targeted Information is converted to personalized Knowledge, shaping positive Attitudes to ultimately drive

CONTEXT: Since the initiation of managed health care, little information has been available on whether family planning agencies are seeking ways to serve (and obtain reimbursement for serving) the growing number of clients who are managed care enrollees.
METHODS: A 1995 mail survey sought information from a nationally representative sample of publicly funded family planning agencies about the agencies' involvement with managed health care plans and related clinic services, policies and practices. Completed surveys were received from 603 agencies, for an overall response rate of 68%.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a widespread chronic illness that affects millions of people around the world. Its management not only necessitates medical intervention but also long-term patient self-management. Most traditional self-management education fails to address individualized needs and ongoing support. With improvements in information technology, especially in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for health management, new avenues have emerged that can improve COPD patients' self-management capacity, ultimately leading to better disease control

BACKGROUND: The on call service for health protection in most parts of the UK is provided by general public health consultants, registrars and nurses as the first tier of response backed up by medical consultants in health protection. The first tier responder usually carries a large bag of papers containing both local and national guidance on the management of common cases/incidents. An electronic on call pack may provide a suitable practical alternative to large paper based systems and help professionals deliver out of hours health protection advice and response to incidents.

ISSUE ADDRESSED: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the infodemic has been highly visible. Vaccine-related advice and evidence-based guidelines for breastfeeding women have lagged, and, at times have been contradictory and confusing. Breastfeeding is an important public health issue with long-lasting health benefits for infants and mothers. This online social listening study aimed to understand breastfeeding-related narratives on social media during the early stages of the Australian COVID-19 vaccine roll-out.
METHODS: Public content about breastfeeding and COVID-19 vacc
