Women's and girls' experiences of reproductive coercion and opportunities for intervention in family planning clinics in Nairobi, Kenya: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive coercion (RC), which includes contraceptive sabotage and pregnancy coercion, may help explain known associations between intimate partner violence (IPV) and poor reproductive health outcomes, such as unintended pregnancy. In Kenya, where 40% of ever-married women report IPV and 35% of ever-pregnant women report unintended pregnancy, these experiences are pervasive and co-occurring, yet little research exists on RC experiences among women and adolescent girls. This study seeks to qualitatively describe women's and girls' experiences of RC in Nairobi, Kenya and opportuni

Family Planning Experiences and Needs of Young Women Living With and Without HIV Accessing an Integrated HIV and SRH Intervention in Zimbabwe-An Exploratory Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: People living with HIV have higher unmet family planning needs compared to those without HIV. This is heightened for young people. However, the provision of family planning for young people within HIV programmes is uncommon. We investigated family planning uptake, acceptability of, and engagement with a service offering integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health services for youth in a community-based setting in Zimbabwe. METHODS: CHIEDZA, a community-based intervention offering integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health services to young people aged 16-24 years, is

Global Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network Support for Elimination Goals, 2010-2015.

In 2012, the World Health Assembly endorsed the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP)* with the objective to eliminate measles and rubella in five World Health Organization (WHO) regions by 2020. In September 2013, countries in all six WHO regions had established measles elimination goals, and additional goals for elimination of rubella and congenital rubella syndrome were established in three regions (1). Capacity for surveillance, including laboratory confirmation, is fundamental to monitoring and verifying elimination. The 2012-2020 Global Measles and Rubella Strategic Plan of the Measles and R

Acceptability and feasibility of the Home Support Needs Assessment in a forensic mental health service: An initial study.

INTRODUCTION: Identifying and addressing the support needs of forensic mental health patients in daily life occupations is critical yet complex due to the health comorbidities and environmental restrictions impacting their participation. Occupational therapists support forensic patient recovery by facilitating their performance in daily life occupations required at home and in the community. Standardised assessments of daily living are important for guiding interventions. The Home Support Needs Assessment (HSNA) is a standardised measure identifying unmet support needs in daily life occupation

Identifying Behavior Change Techniques for Digital Interventions Addressing Alcohol and Tobacco Co-Use: Findings From a Delphi Consensus Study.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol and tobacco use frequently co-occur and contribute significantly to the global burden of disease. Despite the well-established benefits of addressing both behaviors simultaneously, health care professionals often face substantial challenges in delivering integrated interventions, including limited time, training, and resources. Digital health interventions offer a promising avenue to directly support patients in reducing alcohol and tobacco use, while bypassing some of the barriers encountered in clinical settings. However, there is a lack of consensus on the key behavior c

'I Wish the School Had a Better Understanding of the Diagnosis': parent perspectives on educational needs of students with sex chromosome aneuploidies.

Students with sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCAs) are at increased risk for learning disabilities and often require individualized supports in the school setting. Parents of students with rare disorders such as SCAs possess a unique understanding of their child's educational experiences and play a crucial role in the development of successful school support plans. This international survey study aimed to inductively capture parent perspectives on educational needs and supports for students with SCAs. Parents of youth with SCAs ages 5-21 years (n = 305) provided free-text responses to open-ended

Mapping Caregiver Needs' Assessment Tools for Family and Friend Caregivers: A Rapid Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Family and friend caregivers provide essential support across health and social care systems but remain inconsistently identified, assessed, and supported in routine practice. Although numerous caregiver needs' assessment instruments exist, many focus on burden, distress, or preparedness rather than explicitly eliciting caregiver-defined support needs, limiting their utility for care planning, care transitions, and system integration. METHODS: We conducted a rapid scoping review to identify and characterize caregiver needs' assessment tools developed for family and friend caregive

Community health-care staff's experiences of support to prevent type 2 diabetes among people with psychosis: an interview study with health staff.

The aim of the study was to describe mental health staff experiences of giving support to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) among people with psychosis in community psychiatry. A qualitative interview study with a purposeful sample of 12 community health staff was conducted. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. The results show how staff reported continuously supporting people with psychosis to adapt to healthy lifestyles, but stated that support is not given until after a person becomes overweight or is diagnosed with type 2 DM. Support was described as a never-ending pr

How can we improve migrant health checks in UK primary care: 'Health Catch-UP!' a protocol for a participatory intervention development study.

INTRODUCTION: Global migration has steadily risen, with 16% of the UK population born abroad. Migrants (defined here as foreign-born individuals) face unique health risks, including potential higher rates and delays in diagnosis of infectious and non-communicable diseases, compounded by significant barriers to healthcare. UK Public Health guidelines recommend screening at-risk migrants, but primary care often faces significant challenges in achieving this, exacerbating health disparities. The Health Catch-UP! tool was developed as a novel digital, multidisease screening and catch-up vaccinatio

Specific domains of positive childhood experiences (PCEs) associated with improved adult health: A nationally representative study.

BACKGROUND: Positive childhood experiences (PCEs) are supportive relationships and environments associated with improved health when aggregated into composite scores. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), a reciprocal measure to PCEs, are associated with worse health in aggregate scores and when disaggregated into measures of specific ACE types (hereafter domains). Understanding the associations between specific PCE domains and health, while accounting for ACEs, may direct investigations and intervention planning to foster PCE exposure. METHODS: We analyzed data from the nationally representa

Addressing evidence needs during health crises in the province of Quebec (Canada): a proposed action plan for rapid evidence synthesis.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the rapid availability of evidence to respond in a timely manner to the needs of practice settings and decision-makers in health and social services. Now that the pandemic is over, it is time to put in place actions to improve the capacity of systems to meet knowledge needs in a situation of crisis. The main objective of this project was thus to develop an action plan for the rapid syntheses of evidence in times of health crisis in Quebec (Canada). METHODS: We conducted a three-phase collaborative research project. First, we carried out a survey
